How to use this site

Here at Quaddicted.com you can browse and download all known and preserved Quake Singleplayer Maps. Probably there are still a few missing ones, please mail anything interesting to Spirit.

If you are using Firefox or Opera for browsing you can "install" a handy little thing. Create a new bookmark in the Keymarks (Firefox) folder or a new search(Opera) and enter the following url for it: http://www.quaddicted.com/reviews/%s.xml You could also create another one for downloading: http://www.quaddicted.com/filebase/%s.zip. Pretty handy!

Be aware that you can sort the tables by clicking on the "Author - Map - Size - Date DMY - Rating" header. You need Javascript enabled. Warning: It might freeze your browser for a second or two.

Help, Troubleshooting and Hacking

Since June 2008 XSL is used for the descriptions. This decision was made for two reasons: First it made it much easier to maintain the site, change layout, edit files remotely, etc. Secondly I believe in "open source". This means I want others (me as well) to be able to easily use the knowledge and information gathered. XML seemed like the best way to ensure that. Especially if for any reason Quaddicted.com might be no more, god forbid.

Users of Gecko-based browsers (Firefox, K-Meleon and others) need to have Javascript enabled on the description pages. Otherwise the html inside the description texts will not be properly rendered (links, lists). This is due to an very old bug with disable-output-coding not working.

If you are desperate and want plain html files for any reason, you can use xsltproc or any other XSLT processor. It is as easy as xsltproc quaddicted.xsl mapname.xml. Editing the quaddicted.xsl allows you to modify the rendering output. Just mail me if you need help or want me to send you HTML files.

Thanks and credit

Credit for the greatest amount of the descriptions and sorting goes to negke, OmegaPhlare, Sielwolf, erc, Megazoid, ijed, MadFox, spd in no particular order (I have that feeling that I forgot someone, please tell me if!). Thanks for help on converting all the data and various html/css things to mwh, aguirRe, Lardarse, Trinca and the #tf crowd. erc, who did an amazing job adding all those external links to reviews. Sajt for the great online description creator. The "Syringe" Quaddicted logo was made by Husker. The "Quake Lava" one was made by Biff. The icons (Tick and Cross) are from the Silk set. The comments on maps were implemented using the GPL Scriptsmill Comments Script.

German internet laws are fairly weird. I better have my address here. You can use it to send chocolate cookies and love poems to me.
