How to contribute

Alright, you are interested in helping. That's very kind of you! In the following paragraphs I will explain the process of creating a proper map entry for the archive. If there is anything else you need to know, just shout.

New files

If you got a file that is either totally new or just missing in the archive, please mail it to me. They will be put into /filebase (if necessary renamed to a lowercase filename) then.

Adding Descriptions

Thanks to Sajt we now have a shiny online submission script (<- click that!).
It should be quite self-explaining. Please be aware that there are quite many descriptions already done but "half-finished" (text is done but the details are missing). Therefore always check quaddicted.com/filename.html if there is a description already. If yes, just copy'n'paste it and fill out the missing fields. Do not submit without all fields being filled even if it's an old one. Thanks!

Write the review as objective as possible. You are welcome to add your name at the end or drop it in between so people know who wrote. This is rather important if you wrote a very subjective description or used words like I or me.

About the rating: Just keep in mind that 1. not many maps are excellent and 2. not all bad maps are crap. Be fair and do NOT overrate maps please. Most maps will be Average, not Crap-Excellent.

Once you are done please double-check that all the information is correct, make sure you filled all fields and added a screenshot, then hit "Submit". It will be save in a queue folder waiting to be added. I will try to update the site as often as possible, at least weekly.

Screenshots

I use the following alias in my autoexec.cfg, maybe you'll like it too:
alias screenshot_on "r_drawviewmodel 0;crosshair 0;viewsize 120;fov 120;bind q screenshot_off"
alias screenshot_off "r_drawviewmodel 1;crosshair 1;viewsize 100;fov 120;bind q screenshot_on"
bind q screenshot_on
For getting a decent brightness you can use Imagemagick (convert quake00.tga -gamma 1.4 -quality 85 -strip quake00.jpg) or any other program that allows gamma adjusting.

Now that you read all this, don't miss out the last paragraph

Ok, now you submitted a description and feel proud with yourself. Weeks later you happen to stumble upon it again and "What the hell?!" it's not your good old description anymore. Someone changed the rating, modified the text and even removed your name from it.
This might happen of course. Someone might have felt not content with your description, some interesting information was written or your rating was just wrong. In other words: There is no guarantee that your submission remains untouched and available. This should be rather obvious, but I thought I'd add it here. This archive is about the content not the people behind it. ;)
