Quake alternate soundtracks

Hello!
First timer here, but Quake fan since the beginning (and hopelessly nostalgic about MegaTF)

When playing DOPA, I was feeling like some new music would be welcome. So I created my first track this week, faithful I think in the style of Trent Reznor's work for Quake, and had a blast playing through the whole new episode with it.

So, I was wondering if anyone ever heard about alternate soundtracks for Quake? People create new maps, new sounds, new models and textures, but does anyone create new music?

The EpiQuake mod has both a great soundtrack as well as great sounds imo.
Check it out here: http://www.moddb.com/mods/epiquake

Re: Quake alternate soundtracks

Well, I'm underwhelmed...
I was expecting something in the eerie/mystical vibe of the original. I guess I'm too nostalgic...
It's good work, very well done, and quite a feat to do, but it doesn't fit the theme in my opinion.

Here's the link to my track on Bandcamp
I'd LOVE to have feedback.

Hrm

Well its definitely the right approach. I thought the tempo in the beginning was a little too fast. Theres not much progression, it does seem repetitive from the middle to the end. There also seems to be a little over clipping in amplitude near the beginning. I think with some dubbing in of the right things, at certain points it would be perfect.

I definitely agree. There's space for buildup, or variety. Maybe something a bit more lead.

Yes, I need to control the volumes. Still learning ;)

XOlve makes stuff that often fits Quake to a, uh, Q... Granted, nothing can fit the game better than Trent Reznor's masterpiece but many of his tracks have a really dark and/or weird vibe. You can find one of his albums on Bandcamp but he compiled his own alternative Quake soundtrack, available in his much maligned Epsilon build. I keep Reznor's for the main game because DUH!, but I do use XOlve's as replacement to Sonic Mayhem's very generic crap for DoE. XOlve also provided a very nice alt. soundtrack for SoA by Baz.

You might also want to look into dark ambient artists such as Nordvargr, Deathprod, Lambwool, Girnu Giesmes, Z'ev or Za Frumi to name a few. I haven't tested them in-game but I'm fairly positive that David Lynch's The Air is on Fire soundscapes could fit as well. Thinking about it, I bet Gyorgy Ligeti's Lux Aeterna (famous for being used as the monolith choir in 2001: A Space Odyssey) would be just as awesome as it is in the film. And last but not least, there's yours truly. I make rather experimental electronic music, heavily influenced by industrial and dark ambient, and I have a few tracks that could interest you (and more on the way). Check my Bandcamp. I advise you to also check my recommendations: I present 2 "EPs" (more like full-length LPs actually but oh, well...) by Byzant@Sunset featuring one remix by me on each release, one very ministryesque and the other possibly the most darkly disturbing work I've ever done, so it should be very appropriate for Quake.

Downloading yours as I type this. Will review later.
