Re: Bugs in the map archives

Maphfus, for the packs that have maps that have to be played with a mod and others without, moving the entire pack to the mod's folder is not a solution, as the maps made for id1 could not work as intended or not work at all.

Re: Bugs in the map archives

Cocerello. I think that if the pack is placed in the Injector, it should be possible to start it via the Injector. Otherwise it is a bug. I do know how to play the maps using the file system and command line. But if there is this good instrument Injector, and if these packs are placed there, they should work in the Injector. Cocerello, if you think my advises how to fix the bugs are wrong, fix the bugs without my advises. Do it as you can do.

I do not know which part you missunderstood, but I was giving you advice and never talked about what you think I did.

Re: Bugs in the map archives

Cocerello, thank you very much for your advises. I use Injector for the new maps, but often it doesn't work. And recently I realized that the quaddicted maps collection is not complete.
I don’t like the method the maps were installed in the Quake folder by Injector. There are a lot reasons for it. First of all, are the collections from one artist creator of the maps that could be played in rows as episodes. I think they should be collected together and installed in separated folder.
Concerning installation maps to the folders of the mods they are depends, sometimes there are no other method to install them correctly than making a copy of the mod folder and installing additional maps to this folder. This method demands more disk space because of the files duplicating, but sometimes it is the only way to avoid influence of different packs to each other.
This is the reason for the installation of some maps to its own folders than installation them into ID1 folder.
The example is sm206 map pack. It better be installed in its own folder sm206. Otherwise the map Start wouldn’t work. The collection of maps sm206 has its own map called Start, but in the file ID1/PAK0.PAK is its own map Start, and if the collection sm206 would be installed in ID1 folder, the functionality of its Start lever missing.
There are a lot bugs in the Injector collection. I played all the maps from the list of bugged maps above by installing them manually as I do. No problem. But I think the bugs in the Injector must be solved.

Re: Bugs in the map archives

Thanks for the detailed report. Most of them are now fixed. However, note that some of the releases above (and in general) simply can't be played from within the Quake Injector, because they are improperly packaged, not following common standards. Usually when the zips do not have the files in the correct subfolders, or in unnecessary folders that prevent files from being loaded correctly; and sometimes filenames that conflict with case-sensitive operating systems. We don't do repacks ourselves anymore. In such cases, manual installation is required.

I think there are no common standards for making zip files with the Quake one maps. It is absurd. It is not described, it is not common, it is not approved by the community, it is not exist.
And most of the map creators use different archiveators as zip, 7zip, rar. The Injector eats zip files only.
Your decision don't do repacks by yourself anymore is wrong and it will cause that most of all map packs wouldn’t start in the Injector anymore. This your decision discredits the idea of the Injector as the universal tool for the www.quaddicted.com map collection.

For the example. After installing sm206 pack the Start map from the main campaign work with the wrong textures from sm206 pack. It is because this pack is installed in ID1 folder instead to be installed in its own folder.
ter_shibboleth_part_2_rev2 as it issued didn’t work until you made its repack.
I think you must make repacks for the collection.

Re: Bugs in the map archives

Thank you, Spirit, for your reply and for all you have done for us – for the Quake one lovers.
I posted the list of recently met bugs publicly because I didn’t even know are you alive and healthy, because I didn’t know do you administer the www.quaddicted.com collection or not. I had not got replies from you for a long time and I thought you may stop working on my favorite game collection.
Any way, I am sorry for anything could abuse anybody in this place, especially you. My best regards to you and negke. All I want was for our common love – Quake.
I want the Injector would work without any bugs and people and I could enjoy the whole collection, even if they couldn’t install the maps manually.
Thank you, dear friend.

Re: Bugs in the map archives

I apologize if this is the wrong spot, but there is a slight goof with the posting of this map:
https://www.quaddicted.com/reviews/flee.html

It has "Flee" as the author name & "Jay Vanover" as the title of the map(s). It should be vice-versa.
(Jay Vanover is the mapper, "Flee" is the mini campaign).

Just wanted to bring this to the attention to whoever can fix this little mistake :)
