I added on-the-fly compression of all html and xml files. The spmaps list now is a cute 30 Kilobytes download instead of the completely crazy 200 Kilobytes earlier… This wasn’t done earlier because I thought it was a default setting. Well, apparently it was not. As a visitor you should not notice any difference except for maybe a faster download.
Unfortunately my server throws errors if I try to make the images cached well by browsers, but I guess that is negligible.
If you have further hints or ideas how to make the site even faster and nicer to use, please share your thoughts.
In other news Hrimfaxi sent me a load of old maps. Some are nice but the majority is of such quality that makes you want to run away screaming. I am afraid negke did just that (at least mentally). So reviewing them will take a bit. ;)
Anyways, many thanks to Hrimfaxi! (And many thanks to aguiRe who sent in some maps that were added in the last update, I forgot.)
Now if this isn’t a sign that this site rocks, then I don’t know. TÃmea made it as trade for a metal Quake rune (which I forgot to take a picture of, it was a very dark and evil one). Check out her site, she’s got so many nice embroideries there. Getting this made me so happy, it’s always amazing if something “virtual” gets an “real” counterpart.
Thank you.
More by accident than intentionally I stumbled upon a small comment script which I could easily implement in the map’s html files. So I did. Each map’s page now has a comment form at the bottom where you can easily add a comment. No cookies or javascript are needed. Now I wonder what people will post. Insults, very bad swear words and unrelated gibberish will be deleted.
The forum is now linked from every page and the old spmods.html should not be linked from anywhere anymore (except the “submit script”). If you spot some dead or missing links, please report them.
A bunch of updates: dd, digs04, dis_sp6, dumbdim, e2m5rmx, fbase, fr3n1m3, home_ke, hulk256, martys, omlabx, skeet, sm36, smlevel, ssm, supermaze, xplore.
I’m pretty sure I made a mess somewhere, so if you spot something bad don’t hesitate to mention it.
There are a more files pending addition, but I am not sure if they should be added at all:
burns.zip = does anyone know what this is? Wasn’t it someone’s first map and not meant for public?
curse.zip = is an old beta map, I don’t know if the author wants it public
darkbase.zip = is an old beta map, I don’t know if the author wants it public
Also I have repus_building.zip and building.zip with the same contents, does someone know which filename is correct?
Ah, what the hell! When I posted rj’s map earlier I had the distinctive feeling that there was some other map I should post about earlier. I stopped for a moment, thought about last week and nothing came to mind. And just now it came to me and I felt like a completely idiot. Sorry Ijed, this was just a too quick release cycle for me. :o)
ijed released a new map called Data Download. Originally built for the SpaceHulk256 contest.

Download hulk256.zip (560 Kilobytes, f22fcd01a8c8d0ab1f4b19800f9b0f67).
