Looks interesting, impact0r. I'm sorry I can't help you out for the source. Have you tried decompiling it?
Can you go in some details about exact ways in which you plan to "revitalize" the mod? _________________ http://www.planetcocot.net/ |

I have the source code, as well as much nicer models that what was ever released.
Unfortunately, there is no way I can give this to you. I don't need the lawsuit from FOX.
In all seriousness, you are playing with fire here, unless you are doing it for yourself and never going to publicly release it. _________________ http://red.planetarena.org - Alien Arena |

I got the source code too and models from the latest AQ are not that bad (not that I'm going to keep them). Nevertheless, I'd like to see at least screenshots of yours.
As for the Fox, I already explored that angle - I talked with both, AQ head author (who BTW relinquish any copyrights of AQ) and some dude from Fox that is supposed to have been responsible for busting them. In short, no-one cares for such ancient game as Quake1, it's not 1996 anymore.
Besides, even if they would, it's nearly impossible to track the modder down. Internet got a lot bigger since then and it's not like someone is gonna include his resume to the mod. |

You talked with the AQ head author?? You do realize that was me, right? Who exactly did you supposedly talk to? _________________ http://red.planetarena.org - Alien Arena |

..I thought you went by another nick on here already? unless that is(was) on Quakesrc.org I'm thinking of?
..I did laugh knowing you did create the original, but then it dawned on me maybe it was the people from the other Alien mod that popped up a few months ago that he talked to? They are using some of the original sounds & models, but have seen them slowly replaced them as they go. I thought that they have been using there own code though, but don't quote me I'm not sure of anything. Still it sounds fishy since they where never busted by Fox, that was you...

That would be Gustav from Sweden.
I emailed all three of you but get no response. Subsequently, I managed to find only his recent email address.
I might be wrong but I vaguely remember his name was first in AQ credits so I assumed he was the head of the project. If that’s not the case, then my bad.
Anyway, good to see you’re still active and apparently much more AQ inclined than the Swede.
As for the models - I gradually replace them with md3. Check out the screens from the link I gave previously.
I don’t know what models you have but I saw some spectacular difference in Alien models between the AQ I had before (various sizes of demon model) and the newest one I managed to dig up somewhere in the net (various xenomorphs).

We tried to combine both mods into one but turns out we have different visions how it should look like.
In my opinion, Aliens in 'Aliens' are too human-like every encounter looks exactly the same, there is no suspense - atmosphere is inferior to AQ, opponents are only aliens, I dont like the engine (eg. no support for bumpmapping), and finally entire thing looks too much HalfLife-ish.
But that's just me. |

..well not everyone sees things the same... They have great atmosphere in some of what they have shown so far. I do like what they have done to this point and have even donated a set of Alien-esk HUD numbers I had made.. This all just means I get to look forward to seeing what your vision produces as well... ..win-win...

Yeah Gustav wasn't the lead, and I'm actually very surprised that he gave his blessing, as it was he that they threatened the most and had scared.
I'd be willing to donate the models I have, I'll see if I can dig them up. You can use them, as long as you don't mention my name or connect me in any way with the game.
I won't "officially" give you my blessing, so to speak in regards to using AQ code and assets, but I will "look the other way" if you know what I mean _________________ http://red.planetarena.org - Alien Arena |
