Ah, okay. At first I thought I was being insulted, and after reading what you had said a couple times more I concluded that I had no idea what you had said so I figured I'd ask. Now I'm glad I didn't reply angrily. Wink

I liked zelda 64. I haven't played metal gear solid sustenance. I liked MGS2 on the PS2 and MGS1 on the gamecube. They were relatively linear but you had a lot of freedom in roaming the complex much of the time, and it was *so* fun to screw with the guards, especially with invisibility.

I think he was put off by the linear weak points based on his skill 10% into the game.

Shocked ..I find it just odd that Oblivion and Fallout3 have been mentioned on the forums since I started playing them both a few weeks ago since upgrading my PC to be able to handle them with all the eye candy...

..I do find myself going back to play more Fallout3 before Oblivion, but I like them both a lot. The fact that I can roam around exploring freely is fantastic in addition to story and game history is why I like them so much...

I really liked Fallout 3's high-res, gritty and realistic look and feel (compared to a lot of very brightly colored fantasy games that are only steps away from cartoon colors). Perhaps it's too dark for some, but I think it was a very nice break from the norm and beautiful in its own right.

I also loved its gameplay mechanics -- the way you level up, perks, VATS, sneaking around and getting super-pumped-up sneak-attack criticals, etc. It appealed to the powergamer in me. Very Happy

I also liked the ability to put the main story on hold, and do any number of side quests that interested me. Or I could just pick a direction and start walking, and see what I found. That was just so cool to me, and I had a lot of fun with that game.

I wonder what mechanics would be appropriate to include in a true Quake sequel. My concern is it's so easy and tempting to add all kinds of new features and ideas, but each thing you add risks taking you farther away from the original formula that worked so well. That's not the way to do it, imo. That said, I'd like to see more than just another map pack with new weapons. It's gotta be done well! Wink

What I loved about scourge of armagon and dissolution of eternity is the new enemies, traps, environments, story, atmosphere, and weapons actually did make it feel like a distinct game, without feeling like a different game.

do you mean maps and weapons or features like better hitbox, surround sound and smarter ai?

I have to try the new fallout. I didn't know they did fps. the last one I played was a hack and slash, like ghost and ghouls.

Both. A lot of simple things can be improved, like better hitboxes, a more updated mapping format, and vastly improved graphics. However, I would expect them to expand upon (or provide a nearly completely different set of) weapons, monsters, etc. It's good to have familiarity, but not everything should be the same.

The one my friends showed me was on a hexagonal grid and turn-based. It was cool, but hard to get into because it was complex and had a bit of a learning curve. Honestly that's what I was expecting with the new fallout 3, and I was very surprised (and I'd say pleasantly surprised) by how they did it this time.

the graphics are usually last on my list. I would play quake 1 again if it had smooth animations, better hitbox and a really smart or human like ai.

You're human in Fallout 3. You get more powerful as you level up and get to select perks and increase your skills.
