Well, I've finished QuakeWiki.net, it still has a long way to go, with more info and archive sorting, but for now, it is done. Check it out at http://www.quakewiki.net/.
Do guide me for more archives if I'm missing something. _________________ My Projects: Quake 1 Mods | OpenQuartz 2 | ChipQuake |

Quote: | The hosting servers have been suffering from some performance issues
recently, and to alleviate this (to allow active hosted site owners to
migrate away), we mass suspended "abandoned" hosted sites to reduce the
load on the servers. That is, hosted sites for which we do not have
owners' contact details, and which haven't been updated for a
considerable amount of time.
We are willing to unsuspend abandoned Quake sites, but only for a short
amount of time (say, 24-48 hours). If you would like to propose some
dates for which they should be temporarily unsuspended (so that you can
continue to mirror them), please let me know and I'll see if it can be done.
Unfortunately I'm not sure if I'll be able to recover
http://hosted.planetquake.gamespy.com/ hosted sites. These were on a
legacy system and had to be removed earlier; our e-mail (with the August
cut-off date) was for hosted sites on our HSphere system (i.e. with URLs
like http://sitename.hostplanet.gamespy.com/) for which the 31 August
deadline still applies. |
So, does anyone else have some sites to mirror? If so, what date would fit you (don't forget timezone differences)? I would just need an hour or less.

So, you need minion and fatty? I got fatty, but I cannot find minion, and I'm sure I've downloaded it. I'll have to look in my laptop tonight and I'll tell you. I'll also zip fatty and hopefully minion.
EDIT: minion is AICafe, right? I got them both.

http://quakewiki.net/archives/aicafe
Just wait a few days, Spirit, and I'll zip 'em all. No need to crawl and download. _________________ My Projects: Quake 1 Mods | OpenQuartz 2 | ChipQuake |

Well, your copy of fatty's is quite broken, thus I rather crawl some pages myself and do the manual work.
Yes, minion is the "ai cafe". The site's url is minion, not aicafe.
Thanks! _________________ Quake Maps |

Umm... wtf...
It seems like they are not happy that their bandwidth is getting hammered... and yet they don't fully realise why we are doing this...
As for dates: I am away from the 17th until the 20th, so I won't be able to grab stuff until I return. Does anyone have a list of what hasn't been saved yet, cos I'd like to try to take a chunk of that...
minion: I have the zip file still... but my web server is offline because of a router failure last week. I'll start uploading what I have (not many sites right now, last few weeks I've not had much time) when I come back.
Thanks for the heads-up on this latest development. It seems that things just got harder... _________________ <ekiM> Son, you're writing data structures your CPU can't cache. |

I'm gonna ask about the end of next week or the next weekend rather if possible. _________________ Quake Maps |

24/25th July it is.
I will make sure I get good copies of the sites listed in my post http://forums.inside3d.com/viewtopic.php?p=16921#16921
And maybe I will crawl some more just in case, but that would only be for redundancy.
One thing that really irks me are those dynamic sites like Retroquake where there are no distinct files but eg index.php?map=ugh&really=yes
Are those kinds of file names legal on Windows? I can use them fine on ext3/Linux. _________________ Quake Maps |

The sites are coming back for the weekend, some are available already. hosted.planetquake.gamespy.com sites are sadly excluded from this. Many thanks to Chris and Jube!
edit:
Note for me, wget does not convert ? to %3F when baking the localised files. Retroquake needs that fixed. The files are there. _________________ Quake Maps |

The sites will be gone again in a couple of hours.
As getting the to me most important stuff was quick (I had most already) I mirrored all I could get. So if someone is missing a file or two, ask, someone else might have it. _________________ Quake Maps |
