Map for Transloquake and you might win one of the following games:

Enemy Territory : Quake Wars
Unreal Tournament III
Portal
Bioshock
Rainbow Six Vegas 2
Team fortress 2
Half-Life2 Episode Pack
Quake4
Timeshift
Counter-Strike Source
Doom3

Were you wondering what to do this Thanksgiving break? Or looking for an excuse to leave the dinner table early on the 26th in order to avoid your annoying cousins and rowdy uncles?
Or… are you gonna have some free time this Christmas and wanna spend it Quakeing under a Christmas tree? Or maybe you just want to easily win a brand-new game? Here is your chance! Very Happy

The TransloQuake mapping competition is back!
You might remember that, a little before QExpo2008, a mapping competition was launched for my mod-in-construction, Transloquake. The winner of this summer’s competion was Entar and his great map entry, Sky Castle. Because Entar’s map was the only one to make it to the deadline, only one game out of the two available for prizes was won. One prize remains up for grabs!

The rules haven’t changed much. To enter the competition, all you need to do is to create a map for my mod TRANSLOQUAKE, upload it (and its source) somewhere before the 1st of March 2009, at 10pm Central European Time, and post at least one screenshot of it on this thread, along with your name and contact email. You have the right to submit as many entries as you want.
After the closure of the competition, and during a full week, all the members from Quake1-related forums (Inside3D, Func_Msgboard, QuakeOne and QuakeDev – voters will need to have become members before November 18, 2008) will be invited to cast their votes (only one vote per members across all forums) on which map they like best. The author of the best map will get to choose from the list above one game, which will then be sent to him/her. If maps “tie” for first place, a second round of votes will take place.
I guess I should point out that these will not be second-hand games, but new, sealed games. They will be send in DVD form. Steam might considered if the price is not higher than the DVD.

A significant change between the first and this second part of the competition is the release of a new demo of transloquake! (demo3)
In the last few months, I have worked in adding lots of new elements in the code that should enable people interested in mapping for the mod to add a lot of spice to their map.
Just to name a few:
- more than 10 new triggers that can create totally new, Portal-like (if needed) situations: teleportable translocator beacons, beacon-destroying triggers, magnetic triggers, no-shoot zones, translocator-affected buttons, self-destroying translocators, range-altering triggers… and many more
- a new game-mode, CLOCKMODE, in which the goal is to get as many keys as possible within a limited time
- a new game-mode, RICOCHET, in which players can only translocate if their translocator beacon bounces on specific walls (see screenshot above), a new way to complicate the game!
- a new game-mode, CHECKPOINTS, in which players not only have to get keys, but also need to pass through specific checkpoint portals (see screenshot below), challenging and fun!
For a full mapping guide, check Transloquake's page over at : http://cocot.planetquake.gamespy.com/transloquake.htm

This new demo is available HERE and I of course encourage everyone (whether you’re interested in the competition or not) to give it a try, particularly if you've never tried the mod. The demo includes the tutorial map, a regular “ascension-type” map, Entar’s Sky Castle, two bonus maps (using the “time challenge” game mode), as well as a whole bunch of maps meant to help out mappers: tricks.bsp (which has a gallery of all the new triggers), clockmode.bsp (an simple example of the clockmode challenge), ricochet.bsp (one of the ricochet challenge) and two maps, checkpoints.bsp and checkpoints2.bsp, which let you play the checkpoint mode challenge. The screenshot above is from checkpoints.bsp, a simple, but pretty fun map Wink

Good luck! I’ll be looking forward to seeing your creations! Very Happy

A Translocator looping endlessly between teleporters! Some of the possible new "tricks" of this demo Smile

and a news post too ; )

Some exciting features in this release, definitely looking forward to trying it. Though you speak of Portal, it gives me a feel more of Marble Blast Online... Will have to see when I get a chance to play it.

Alas on the contest, you offer no games I am interested in owning honestly... But if I get an idea, maybe I'll make a map nonetheless. Maybe. Chances are slim.

Okay I'm just lazy.

Hehe... Yeah, I know how it feels Smile
This can be REALLY easy to map for, though. The two examples maps for the ricochet and the checkpoint mode I built in just a few hours (while working on the code), and they're both pretty fun (well, I think Razz)
Thanks a lot for the newspost! Wow, I feel so exposed! Smile

I'll be using Amazon. If, however, prices are similar via Steam and the winner prefers that method, a Steam gift can also be made (that's the way Entar, winner of the previous competition, received his copy of Team Fortress 2) Smile
I should point out that there is only one prize this time, though(since we already had a winner last summer).

That's why I wanted to ask, as some people here would not prefer a Steam gift. Me being one of them. Smile

Oh, I see Smile No, Amazon was my primary way to go, so no problem! Smile
Are you considering designing a map? Very Happy

After more than two months of VIS woes, it's finally done.

Lunar Outpost by negke

A small base on the moon with artificially unrealisticized high gravity.
Good thing they always keep a translocator ready for such circumstances.
Screenshots two posts above.
