allways been a major wish for me to have a good free compiler for quake and i tried loads watcom while nice is a bit to strict in its syntax tho i got darkplaces compiling with it it crashed i newer found out why.
mingw was the other alternative and maybe more suitable since the environment is pretty close to what linux users are used to.
lately it was updated at the mingw sourceforge site but still in alpha
state so i took the time "loads i might add" to iron out the bugs in the new gcc-4.3.2 code and fixed windows paths some ada growls and a few missing typedefs.
i compiled the entire package so far im the only one succesfull doing that with mingw itself and so far it seems to run fine but few parts like the ada compiler im not familiar with so if any linux users want to give it a spin ?.
with codeblocks darkplaces compiles nicely if you import the msvc project. also runs fine.
pretty much anything you need is in the package except an ide use codeblocks for that or msys if more used to a commandline interface.
includes boost tiff jpeg png jasper gif libxml2 libxslt libprce libssp libpthread zlib zip pdcurses libraries.
theres an emacs editor included.
it supports openmp for multicore cpu's library included.
can link against ms runtimes upto and including the latest 9.0.
tons of command line utils to many to list infact
give me a shout if theres any interrest ? i need to know if theres any bugs before i mail it to mingw.org |

A GUI could be useful, and it's not hard to code either. _________________ My Projects: Quake 1 Mods | OpenQuartz 2 | ChipQuake |

dont see much point in it with loads of good free ide's around like codeblocks dev-c++ etc, also my skill in the gui apartment are less than satisfactory
codeblocks is nice cause you can use it with pretty much any compiler
like watcom cygwin borland mingw hell even ms own free ones
darkplaces compiled with it http://rapidshare.com/files/188586430/darkplaces.rar.html
nice speed
and the compiler
MinGW-gcc-4.3.2.exe
please ignore the stupid way the emacs icon is placed damn installer does it so automatic and i cant change it working on a solution |

I might have a use for it, but right now I'm working on QC modding, so no engine compiling yet.
And, as a matter of fact, I'm working with Darkplaces, so I'll take it now and give it a try. _________________ My Projects: Quake 1 Mods | OpenQuartz 2 | ChipQuake |
