when we called it "Quake", no stupid 1 or I

the threatening quit messages

the end splash screen

the brown menu tint background (before it was turned into a horrible black mesh in 1.06)

the -sndspeed parameter

the low framerates my 486 got especially when you start firing a nailgun

the 8bit sound grain with a sbpro

playing without mouselook, just keyboard only

the use of -winmem 12 or 16

the tweaked 360x240/360x200/320x320x400/320x480/360x400/360x480 video modes

having to run q95.bat to play on TCP-IP, and also its little splash screen

my first quake levels Sad

I just started playing with a software engine again (Makaqu). The old look is just so nice.

I miss,

hitting the space bar on everything to try to open them, having not quite adapted to Quake coming off of playing Doom.

I miss some of the old particle effects, especially the blood trails.

I wonder if LordHavoc or metlslime would be willing to bring back the tint? Or have it as an option?

I do like that Darkplaces retains the threatening quit messages.

I do miss the old splash screen...

I agree with Frik, I miss new mods. I miss that rampant creativity... Theoretically we can do anything now... yet it feels like less is done in some aspects =\

I miss the modders.

I've never played Quake 1.01 so I was unaware of the brown tint, could someone give me some details on it? Or do I have to sift through the stolen 1.01 source? Razz

I've got 1.01 shareware as well as 0.91 shareware. I'm uploading that right now infact (the original installer zipped, not some hampered up OMG UPDATED FOR WINBLOWS so you can play on our MODDED SERVER! version)

EDIT: uploaded
