It's the holiday season and I think some wonderful things will be happening in the future.

I think the Quake and the "Quake" (Quake as an idea, rather than shamblers and ogres) community is the most satisfying thing I've seen evolve over the years.

It is humbling and heart-warming learning the history and realizing the limits of one's self and the value of community.

I want to thank people that I feel made a difference to me personally, even though in reality there are far too many to mention.

Thanks list:

Quote:
Slot Zero - for maintaining the RuneQuake mod and the RuneQuake servers all of these years. His invitation when I was playing on his server to beta test his forums back in, would you believe, 2000 was the incident that caused me to be part of the RuneQuake community.

Jozsef Szlontai - Back in 2003, I saw an incredible engine that was very rough around the edges but with great promise. It needed beta-testers. I offered several! Jozsef was a source of hope in the "dark days" of NetQuake.

And in more recent times ...

Quote:
Leilollol (of all people): His intelligent and contrarian points-of-view eventually sunk in. I have to credit FrikaC and Mauvebib too. Open source is bridge between tomorrow and today. I always have been pro-"Open Source", but initially I didn't understand the way I do today.

Rook. Once upon a time, I didn't see the "coolness" of ideas that were more modding ideas than something someone would actually play Quake deathmatch with.

LordHavoc. I have a love-hate relationship with DarkPlaces, because I am part purist. One eye sees DarkPlaces netcode, extensions, incredible groundbreaking capabilities, dpmaster and the other eye sees an engine that doesn't work on every video card, fps issues and can't run certain maps and mods properly. DarkPlaces is a testament to forward thinking with a lifetime of advancement in a period of just a few years. I like how the engine is geared towards granting QuakeC modders extra capability and resources.

aguirRe. His personal advice and assistance helped me though the tough part of engine coding --- the beginning. And trained me on engine debugging and the idea of GLQuake compatibility.

Spirit. I initially thought of Spirit as someone with good intentions whose website that would get erased every 6 months.

Spike/Avirox. Forward thinking ideas through action and implementation. Raw knowledge road-testing incarnate.

MH/Tomaz/Tei types. Deep experience translated into concrete results that only a great deal of expertise can deliver.

Team Xlink/Ceriux types. Newer and enthusiastic and learning and do their best to make significant contributions. I compiled for the PSP only due to Team Xlink's efforts.

The general greater Quake community contributors. Generally the enthusiastic player-base/server-operator/mapper/modder contributors that enrich the community with their presence too numerous to mention. This ends up being an infinite list so unfair to name names.

In a way, I hesitate to click submit knowing the list is grossly incomplete and can never be complete. Yet I click submit in the sincere hopes that my contributions are or will be taken for granted.
