Would be interesting in the future if an engine supported a blur filter to map textures based on distance...(?)

I've always wanted to see a mod make heavy use of this trick.

In addition I've always wanted to see darkness/brightness
and depth zoom based on pupil dialation/shape (or howeever depth is done....lens deformation I think?
to see if you could trick your brain enough to get it dialate your pupils in order to affect change in the engine.

Depth is done by varying the distance between the lens and the retina, I believe - compressing the eyeball via muscles.

edit: OK, that was actually wrong, it's done by deforming the lens. Biology isn't my strong point. Smile

The building textures appear to be a bit out of focus. Hmm though, it adds depth to that image. Would be interesting in the future if an engine supported a blur filter to map textures based on distance...(?)

Are you talking about the buildings in the skybox ?

1.6 - I've stuck with what I know(ish) and am too old to learn a new one.

I think you sould raise the view of the player a bit ( view_ofs ?). The Stepsize of Quake is very big, and looks weird and unnatural on a realilstic setting.

Anyway on a map like this sound will be everything.

I've tried messing with view_ofs but it causes other issues that I cannot be bothered to solve....

No the actual building texture behind the lamp posts looked a little blurry, which made the lamp post appear to pop out more.
Kinda like in that video where the camera points at the pillar with the statue and everything else is blurred.

This is the engine feature I was thinking about in my earlier post. Might have to render the scene multiple times, but looks quite modern.

The texture is a little blurry, it's just the texture quality. It remains in 'cos I like it, I don't really have the means, skill or time to do anything about it Wink
I get bogged down initially with the mod trying to get everything perfect and realistic, but to be honest I'm just happy with getting the right feel, look and atmosphere and letting a few flaws pass by.
