hello there people!

I've always been an quake-fan and im studdying on a Computer/programer school in Sweden/stockholm. And today we was told that we all (all students in school) are gonna make some kind of project. And theres where i got my ideá. I'll make an quake mod/addon.

I'm very new into this whole modding and i need your help to make me succeed.

What do i need to think about before i begin to mod, programes that are usefull, how do i really make an mod, usefull books (?), websites and so on.

Ive been read the tutorial on games.moddb.com and wiki.quakesrc.org.

Tell me everything you think i need to know and how to do it.

Tjena svennejävel!

No but seriously, you should spend some time immersing the community and all the info there's available. It can at times be hard to find, but it's really all there.

Asking what you're asking is not far from making us do the job for you. Part of creating something of your own, is to learn how to do it. If it's all served for you, you will be getting off too easily, which will lead to you not learning anything, as well as getting a false picture of the industry.

Most people who make mods for their school projects are already familiar with modding to some extent, so it feels very natural for them to make a mod as their graduation project or whatever it is.

With that said, I don't mean we won't help you, you'll get as much help as is possible and feasible. Just don't expect us to do the job for you.

Start out with browsing this site, quakedev, quakeone, quakesrc, QuakeTerminus, AI Cafe, and you'll be off for a good start. However, if you haven't messed with any kind of modding prior to this, I hope you learn fast, cause it's not that easy...

Ragnarok Online? old? Why, I doubt any Korean kids have died of dehydration while playing it yet! You call that old?

This is the Ragnarok I've played... Smile

Anyway, a good resource will probably be the Quake Wiki. I understand that you are probably on a time budget and don't have too much time to 'immerse in the community'. So whenever you need something, feel free to spam threads in the forum, we could use the activity Smile That should count as immersing anyway...
