Scarcrow, if someone is interested in participating in Quake Expo this year
1. who do they contact
2. what do they need to do
3. where is the web hosting going to be at
4. where can they find information, etc.
5. What is web site of address of official QExpo info page or site?
I was thinking about this earlier today. I bring this up because I think signups were in May last year and QExpo was in August so this kind of information and infrastructure is important sooner rather than later. |

You always treat my name differently each time...
1. scar3crow at yahoo dot com with the subject of QExpo 2006
2. Make sure by the week before QExpo they have a decent booth arrangement with good information, arranged screenshots, and a planned download ready (if one is planned at all). Basically just make sure everything is in order so when people visit their booth they dont scratch their heads regarding what to do or what it is for. Basic website principles there.
3. Quakedev.com it looks to be, courtesy of Echon.
4. Myself, Sajt, or SantaClaws. There is no formal public info as of recently, anything of relevance will be posted in the Quake Events section of this forum, on Func_Msgboard and on QuakeOne. Still need to hop over to Besmella.
5. It will most likely be qexpo.quakedev.com once again. Right now the PHP for the site is still being worked on (its being revamped quite a bit to make it easier to find what is going on and check out new stuff).
It is coming along, but that is mostly Santa's department. I am contacting people in the community to get them interested, get their input, and also try to whip up more of a Quake spirit amongst them. Also working on interviews and articles for QExpo.
Ultimately though the booth signup should be pretty painless, when the site is launched publically then booth signup will be enabled, preferably with some sample content (booths without content by the day of QExpo will not be visible to users until it has a suitable amount of contact (teaser info, a screenshot, summary, link, download... something of relevance)). |

scar3crow, you should register at QuakeWorld.nu and talk with Sassa via private messages.
He wants to help spread the word about Quake Expo and would like to assist, today he and I discussed Quake Expo 2006 and since you run it, it would be better for you to continue the conversation than myself. |

3000th post of the forum, w00t! like, 104th of mine YAY |
SantaClaws wrote the php code for the last two qexpos and is doing so again for this one. I can't wait to see what he comes out with this time! _________________ Apathy Now! |

Baker - I intend on doing so, I had a short exchange with sassa via quakeone.com PMs and am quite excited to see that he is most interested in celebrating Quake and including others in the process. We are looking to attract more players and have this QExpo have the highest attendance with the greatest stratification of Quake fans yet.
Entar and MauveBib - We have more planned just on a functional level for the php this year, to make QExpo flow even more smoothly and have more organized and legible booth system. In case of fire, then we have the 2005 php ; ) |

As you've previously noted, the 2005 Quake Expo was not well known amongst players, NQ or QW. Last year, I always got the feel that it was a developers-only kind of thing ... I know it wasn't, but it had a "closed" feel to it. I know this wasn't intentional.
It will be nice to see if that can be changed by a few orders of magntitude this year. |

Ive applied for registration at quakeworld.nu's forums, still awaiting the authorization email.
In all honesty, in the past few years... It has felt developers only, and I dont mean QExpo, I mean Quake. I never got a sense of there being other players out there.... It usually felt like it was the I3D forums and func_msgboard, and the irc counterparts of both.
The closed feel has never been intentional, but it is not without incident - I personally have felt since around 2000 relatively alone in this Quake universe due to the lack of contact between developers and players. In fact it seems the only coders any of the players have heard of at all are FrikaC and LordHavoc. Inside3d seems to be unknown to the players (some of whom might be open for new mods or learning to mod themselves) despite the site being older than many players' career in playing Quake.
I am really hoping to see a push on the servers for interest in QExpo, via websites such as QuakeOne, the QuakeWorlds, Refragged, Besmella and on servers MOTD. Reunite the communities of Quake, the glory is still there, but with this unintentional and often unrealized segregation, it's light is hidden under a basket. |

I have to admit that last year at this time, I didn't know of the Inside3D site nor Func_Msgboard. I only knew of said sites starting in July of last year.

Hehe, only about 2 weeks ago did I learn there was IRC channel for the Func_Msgboard ppl.
In my community of origin, as far as I can tell, almost none of the players use IRC. We always have been very messageboard oriented and more or less just show up on servers. (we've probably gone thru at least 30 different ones)

I have to say that has been a pleasure meeting you and the rest of the guys, and I think most of the players that have participated on the QuakeOne site would agree with that statement.

Very true.

You won't have any problem with that on the QuakeOne.com side of things.
I plan to ask some of the members of the community who I know have things to show off at QExpo if they are interested in participating, when the time is right. |

To make sure none of this unknown stuff ever happens again, I think each and every Quake community site should link to other community sites which are dedicated to the same Quake game. This would improve communication and collaboration. IMO. _________________ woh... feelin woozy... too much cider...
