Hi, it's good old Ren here! I've released TAoV stand alone here (this is a beta of the stand alone release! I'm not going to release it at DCEmulation.com till it's ready)

It's beta because:

A) I need permission to use pop.lmp - argh, who do I email for that?
B) Hell Knight model is used which isn't a shareware monster
C) Some of the menu graphics need to be improved

Be sure to read the readme.txt, it contains special moves Vigil is able to do. Try some air combos and whatever! Smile

TAoV has now been released on DCEmulation.com also after finding out that pop.lmp is GPL! Now to replace the Hell Knight....

You won't get it. You understand what POP stands for, right? Proof of purchase. Distributing it is paramount to distributing the full game.

I think OpenQuartz includes it also, I don't see Id Software suing them however.

About the mod:

- I like graphics.
- Even software mode its cool
- I am dump or what? ITs dificult to use magic?
- Maybe you can add grass or something to the GL version. The soft version its perfect, but the GL one need much more details.
- You still need to replace some models (dog and knight)
- The gameplay its OK.

Gameplay : 7/10 very cool, IMPRESIVE
Graphics: 6/10 very good
Sound: 5/10 <-- most mods scores here less than 3

Thanks, I worked on the graphics/animation and shtuff.

A button brings out the magic menu, pressing A again casts
the spell. You're able to cast magic spells with 1/2 of the
mana requirement! However Vigil will become tired after
casting it.

I've suggested this to RPG but he doesn't want that, he wants
it bleak and miserable for the theme of the level.

Castle.bsp contains a new monster that can cast spells at j00!

2 bugs
I get some walls white on the castle, and still quake models.

The Knight and Dog are staying, they fit with the mods theme!
White walls? Must be a video card problem as I don't see it.

I get missing textures in DP sometimes when I play Conquest... Maybe it's a problem with some certain vid card or something... Sad

Maybe. I have ATI and have problems with other games too.

Odd, I'm using an ATI Radeon 8500LE 64 Meg and it works fine.
Anyways ...

New version!

Features
----------

- I haven't been able to find one bug as of yet ..
- Castle has completely new music, once again by Bl1tz
- Vigil's old lame looking kick has been replaced by a jumping round house kick animation and additional physics; looks a lot better
- Vigil is now able to block in mid air
- New frames of animation have been added to Vigil
- Fireball spell and the Hell Knight's lightning spell is now blockable
- Lightning Storm has been completely recoded, and now it uses sprites
- 2 New monsters! Wraiths and Arch Ghouls
- Vigil's block frames have been revamped
- Vigil is now able to backflip out of a Diving Swallow (Walljump kick) attack
- Many TAoV "engine" tweaks, I've bug fixed a lot of small glitches; for example, such as monsters hitting each other with spells
- Changed the flags color and symbol
- Updated castle.bsp again with the new Wraith enemy, Arch Ghoul is finished but it is currently unused
- Tweaked Vigil's Slice Special so that it's easier to use and has a lower recovery time
- Monsters floating in air syndrome has been eliminated, this showed itself mostly when you broke the barrels that Knights were standing on top of in the castle map
- Vigil's running attack and Uppercut Slice are now able to climb up stairs
- Tweaked a lot of graphical effects
- Gaunt's now explode into a puddle of guts when they hit the floor after death

etc...

Please give input back on the updates! I also accept suggestions and critisism; they help me out by making a better game.

- New camera features, the camera has a cinematic mode, can stop following, and is now able to track other entities other then Vigil .. Overall the camera is a lot smarter this time around!
- Damage value tweaks
- Camera will now track the monster being hurt by Fire Beam spell
- Vigil's Wall Grab Jump and his Head Smash now use the cinematic camera and it looks sweet
- Bug fixes here and there
- Castle.bsp is now complete, time to develop castle2.bsp
- Added enviromental lightning effects, castle.bsp now takes place in a lightning storm
- New ambience sounds
- A new detail model (Lions head attatched to walls)
- Headsmash now flows perfectly after the Air Uppercut attack
- Controls are slightly looser

The cinematic camera is my favorite feature by far, especially used in an air combo! It's the perfect finisher.

ummmm.... I just played the latest version and the camera doesn't work at all, it doesn't move at all.

I tried on Quake, GLQuake, ToChris and a couple of other engines...

Fix it Ren!

it does work in DP however, but not in any other engine I could find!

Maybe he doesn't set a model to the camera entity, but DP is lenient on that? (I don't know if either is true though)

Grab the latest progs.dat from:
http://circa1984.com/renegade/renonly/progs.dat

It also contains spiffy new particle effects, and a bunch of tweaks
