I have to say, I'm very pleased a couple of my mods have been mentioned. It's always good to get that kind of feedback. Very Happy

I too forgot to mention Hurried Descent and Fiend Hunter. I was really disappointed when FH's development stopped, because what had already been done was amazing. Hurried Descent was a great example of an extremely simple idea done really well, which blows a lot of more complex games right out of the water.

I also enjoyed Team Fortress back when I played Quake online and I'm pleased the idea has taken off (now with TF2 on the source engine, though I haven't gotten around to playing yet). Rune Quake and a few others are likewise fond memories.

And I forgot another big one that completely slipped my mind: Token Quake. I really enjoyed coding for and playing that one, and playing against FrikaC and others. It was a lot of fun putting together a character and trying it out in battle.

Lastly, has anyone played Archmage? That was an impressive mod as well, though not among my top 5. I suppose that was the one that really got me started into coding, as I used it for reference regularly for a good long while.

Cheers, all.

yes, though it was quite crashy and the map didn't have a lot to kill.

Token Quake was damn fun for all.

Archmage was an amazing mod, but too many keys and impulses to learn... as with a lot of old mods.

Aye, Hurried Decent is one of my faves from back when.

What's the name of LTH's mod with a mech that you play and upgrade with frags from killed bots? (was that a full thought?)

Sadly, we had a tragic naming conflict which I think is my fault. I imagine it as a very Dilbert-like moment:

LTH: I've got an idea! I'll make a mod with mechs and name it Battle Mech
Me: Oh, cool

Me(later): I've got an idea, I'll make a mod with mechs and call it BattleMech.

I'm sure my thinking at the time was short of malevolent... I didn't intend to steal the name from him. However, he had the name first and I trampled over that. Didn't realize it until years later. I still feel bad. O_O

I remembered that old thread. I guess it doesn't hurt relisting my favourite stuff, though Smile

Aside from the "obvious" Frikbot:

Team Fortress + Coffee's TF bots (http://minion.planetquake.gamespy.com/index2.html)
Hurried Descent (it's really sad there isn't a link for it anywhere... I'd totally upload it somewhere, but I've left almost all my old Quake1 mods cds in Europe)
Gyro (http://quakematt.quakedev.com/gyro.php)
Bulldog Stadium (http://www.ajaysquakesite.co.uk/bulldog.htm)
Fiend Hunter (http://fh1.telefragged.com/)

There is something about TF that I really enjoy even though, I must admit, I have spent a lot more time playing TFC than Quake TF (I know, it's bad... Wink). TF2, for some reasons, does not appeal to me as much (even though I was uber-excited when I finally played it), I prefer Fortress Forever by far. But I'm digressing from our Quake1 discussion, here... Razz

I've been so lame, that I've only played some Matrix Quake. It was quite fun in lan DM, until someone decided to press the bullet time button, when he was on the other side of the map.. and later we just started to press the bullet time button for fun of annoying others, not really using it for fighting...

I don't have Hurried Descent (nor Ascent) either and not even the Quake2 redo. I'll probably hunt for it soon

I think I still have Hurried Descent on my laptop in it's unmodified form.
I'll check that tomorrow, though I don't know where to upload it to.

There was, but I never got around to releasing it. There's one glaring bug in there which makes the mod crash on occasion and I stopped working on it before fixing it. Mostly because I got so damn addicted to WoW.
