cant say for sure that this will work but try downloading driver cleaner select the nvidia driver and erase it all and reboot.
get the newest driver of nvidia after and reinstall it.
the reason why i suggest this is because as mh says lack of stencil doesnt cause this but since i know for sure that the card supports it something bad has happened to the driver and is most likely also the cause of this.
i know from trying that some registry repair/cleaning utilities has a bad habit of deleting driver info sections from registry if the registry setting doesnt contain a path, which will break some drivers (especially nvidia's) got a 8800gtx myself and had that problem. |

Cleaned the Nvidia driver, restarted, installed driver again, restarted, and still same problem. Still says stencil unavailable.
The 9800gx2 is a dual GPU card.. and I do have K-lite codec pack installed... which I don't want to uninstall because i wouldn't be able to play alot of stuff on winamp. I do have Creative X-FI soundcard though if that has anything to do with it |

..Ok got me curious. What "stuff" wouldn't you be able to play using Winamp with the K-Lite codec pack installed? |

OK, I know the K-Lite codec pack is evil and that it intercepts D3D calls and lots of nasty stuff like that.
I'm also suspecting that my infinite projection matrix might not be playing nice with certain cards. I'm gonna do some stuff with that for the next release, but it would be nice if someone who was having probs was able to compile; we could try out a few things then. _________________ DirectQ Engine - New release 1.8.666a, 9th August 2010

My suspicion right now is that either your card or your driver is unhappy about DirectQ's infinite projection matrix. I'm half way through reconfiguring a new OS build and can't even run DirectQ myself at the moment, but I'm going to try get a new build up without the infinite projection matrix shortly (just for testing and verification).
I had earlier suspected that your view was somehow being shoved inside a "CONTENTS_SOLID" leaf, as I had changed the clear colour to grey in such cases (to mimic the look of software Quake). I'm also going to change it to neon pink or something like that for the purposes of this build. _________________ DirectQ Engine - New release 1.8.666a, 9th August 2010

Ya the HL2 engine is DirectX, including CounterStrike:Source. |

Finally, here's another test build of the 1.7.3 base. This is identical to stock 1.7.3 except that it disables both the infinite projection matrix and the optional use of a W-Buffer. My current hunch is that one of these is potentially the culprit.

I've included the changed source files solely for GPL compliance, but this - as I've said - is just a test build to try determine the cause of a problem, and is not intended for general use. Owing to the changes made sky won't be shown in this version. _________________ DirectQ Engine - New release 1.8.666a, 9th August 2010

i also noticed that during the start demo the only noises i hear are ammo/weapon pickups, weapons being fired, and the player jumping. |

Curioser and curioser.
It seems obvious that the problems you're having are relating to something in the setup for the 3D (world/entities/etc) render. Can you go to the Customize Controls menu, bind a key to "Automap On/Off", then exit the menus and press that key? It won't fix anything of course, but if it works it will give me a very specific area of code to go looking in. _________________ DirectQ Engine - New release 1.8.666a, 9th August 2010

OK, you're getting no transforms on 3D objects, probably to do with when the depth buffer is enabled. Can you tell me - when you start it up - what it says on the console for Back Buffer Format and Depth/Stencil Format? _________________ DirectQ Engine - New release 1.8.666a, 9th August 2010
