I turned off RT World, still runs super-slow.
Any help would be appreciated.

Cheapy: not everyone has that kind of money... so that was a cocky sorta comment. sometimes people really just have to work with what they have.

redrum: did the r_glsl 0 help? if not, there's tons of things that'll help DP on lower vid cards.

My old 5200 wasn't a bad card. I could run Doom3 on medium-high detail without too many problems. Oblivion ran OK also, and quake was fine.

I think it's not a video thing. I may have it installed incorrectly.
There are 2 files. The engine and the mod right?
Do I extract both files into let's say C:\Quake?
Then I should just click on the .exe file right?

Unrelated question:
Is there a way to get a -1 frag when you get killed?

FXs arent good cards, to be honest.

Error, he would be better off with a ti series or such, the FXs just werent good.

redrum - Darkplaces the engine was created for modders and to run DPmod, all you need to run the engine is use darkplaces.exe

i have c:\quake\darkplaces.exe and c:\quake\dpmod\darkplacesmodstuff

Regarding the losing a frag when dying, I'd just put in a self.frags == frags - 1; into the player death sequence, so you get penalized in any case.

Well when a '5th generation' video card performs much slower than one of the lowend cards of the 2nd generation, then there's a problem.
