Probably the only forum post with the word "gambling" within it that you'll read for the next six years or so that isn't actually spam.
I got bored a few days ago and knocked up a quick minimod. It's fun for short blasts, although I have some more ideas I intend to throw at it when I get round to it.
Get QuakeBait from my website.
If anyone notices any glaring bugs please let me know. Oh, and when the fight spills out onto the wrong side of the fence, that's a "feature", not a bug. |

A "simple" concept, yet fresh and new, as well as fun and full of potential, I love it!
I love the idea of using Quake for something completely different, yet fun and I think this is a promising mod, Plumb! It's cool to watch the fiends fight as well as the shambler giving away rewards.
The only glitch I experienced was winning the first round, then losing the second one and my health going down to 75 instead of 100 (it had gone up to 125 first). Apart from that, it was fine. Maybe the winner could die a little faster once the fight is over, but that's just personnal preference.
Maybe it's just me, but I had a hard time telling the difference between fiends. Maybe a more distinct skin would help, as I would have liked to be able to see more clearly which was the one I had put a bet on when I watched them fight
Obviously, variations around this mini-mod could turn it into a full-scale mod on its own right. Add more characters, arenas, maybe some hazards, special powers, enabling fights between species... etc. A special deathmatch version in which players would be able to "upgrade" characters with the money they've earned would be fun, too (just an idea).
Good stuff!
Note: Pest Control also sounds fun! |

How do you know who won until you get electrocuted? Both fiends die at once. I guess the one who gets struck by lightning is the one who won?
Also, in engines that set onground on top of monsters, you can jump into the cages :S

CocoT: You know those skins are quite easy to spot on my monitor, but then again I seem to have the brightness up quite high so that's probably the reason. I want to knock up a few skins and have different looking fiends spawn rather than the same two over and over anyway.
As for the damage, it's deliberately uneven. +25 for winning and -50 for losing. The reason is that it's actually too easy to pick the winner once you know what to look out for.
I have ideas that should spice things up a bit for that though, so I can even the winnings/losses out.
Sajt: I think I know what you mean. I actually promised myself that I'd make it clearer who's getting zapped when and for what reason before releasing the mod, then forgot.
Oh and I knew about the cages being somewhat climbable. I've actually gotten used to watching the fights from up there, and sitting on the shambler's shoulders too.
I'll try to get a new version out tomorrow clearing those things up.
I don't think this will ever become a huge mod due to the sheer state of the source code. However, it has given me an idea for something much bigger along a slightly similar line. |

It's a cool idea though. It would make a great touch to a bigger mod. Kind of like how Fallout had an area where you could bet on molerat fights. But if it were developed on its own it would also be cool. I personally would like to see more elbow space with all those grunts And some kind of feedback when you place your vote, i was just pounding on the 1 or 2 key hoping my vote registered. Also it takes too long to start the fight _________________ F. A. Špork, an enlightened nobleman and a great patron of art, had a stately Baroque spa complex built on the banks of the River Labe. |

Cool mini mod. The fiend in cage 2 won 5 times in a row when I first played it. I was thinking "what the frek is going on here"... but it turn out to be pure chance. |
