As I am now on a new machine, I am rebuilding my Quake folder from a fresh install.

And I notice something... This site doesn't do jack for you on the first steps. I cannot locate within the site a download link for the qc source, for compilers, or any definitive links to things (mapping tools, modeling tools, IDEs, pak explorers, recommended engines).

Also the language of the Getting Started page is a bit awkward as it states I multiple times, without a clear author to be had.

On top of not being able to locate the progs106, SoA and DoE source are not clearly visible either. Unfortunately the CMS I have does not grant direct access to that portion of the site, but these are things that I think need to be remedied.

We need a quick list of links and instructions for how to start making your own mod, with a link to the tutorials and specs. We could use at least a FAQ for such in general, covering modeling as well. Just some thoughts. On the site. To reiterate the subject. Of this post. Yay periods.

Spot on, that's what happened to me recently.

I had to dig through various sites, but I only knew where to look from being in the community so long.
Might I also suggest for things to put up being compilers. Both frikqcc and fteqcc.

Would be handy to have a listing of map compilers too, don't need to just limit things to the coders. hmap2, tyrlite, q1rad and all that jazz.. there's quite a few out there.

Going to be doing a little bit of a drop for the Quake Wiki, but adding these links as they are brought together in the Wiki would be a great asset, right now I am to busy to do these things by myself nor can find a proxy to get around my work's content filter...

It would be greatly appreciated, even compile the lists on the wiki so that Inside3D can just get the information from there.

The old quake wiki had a lot of information on getting started:

It just needs to be moved over to the new wiki

Awesome, thanks for the heads up!

If anyone wants to write a new getting started section for Inside 3D, whip one up and send me it via email. Been a bit busy with other stuff lately, but I will php-ify and upload it if anyone can create something good.
