What are your top 3 favorite Quake mods of all time and why?
If you could, please put any download link info you may have for each so others may try them out if they haven't yet.
1. Prydon Gate - "OMG WOW! That can be done in Quake???" was my first thought on playing this extraordinary TC. Amazing to every length of the incomplete game. WHY DID THIS HAVE TO END!? I had so many great online nights with this one. I believe you could go HERE for the latest release.
2. Gyro - Thank you QuakeMatt for adding some kinda of a good physics library for Quake (which technically has no real physics). Amen to the fact that you can easily add it into virtually any mod with a few lines and watch it work. Here's hoping for more releases of this. DOWNLOAD FROM HERE.
3. Fiend Hunter - Xoltan should have never stopped making this great TC. I found myself playing this game for many many hours each night for at least a month straight. (of course I had no life back then). Still waiting for someone to come forth with version 0.63 as it was the one I loved to play. Dunno if the download links work still, but you can get the last from HERE. _________________ Inside3D : Knowledge Is Power

You should also mention to refrain from self-promotion. Anyway:
1. Versus (1999) - As if you need to know anything about it because you already knew! And you know where to get it from too!
2. DNL (1997) - This is probably the most original FvF clone ever but everyone hates it for the sounds, because it's mouthed. PRESTO CHANGE-O
3. Wazat (1998) - this mod has crazy weapons like WIND! and a health pack that doubles as a mid-air elevator and other tons of crazy stuff. Wazat has not since recaptured the fun wackiness of wazat, he takes modding too seriously now _________________

yes! please refrain from any self-promoting. this is other peoples' mods.
Cheapy: and no, people don't know where to get them from. hence: me asking for download links. _________________ Inside3D : Knowledge Is Power

1. Zerstorer: Testament of the Destoryer - was an extremely well done mod, that had me on edge the entire time. The end boss sequence was just terrifying.
2. Quake Rally - Quake with cars, loads of fun!
3. Dawn of Darkness(q2) - very professionally done, polished, and alot of fun. Still one of the all time great efforts. Too bad it was never finished. _________________ http://red.planetarena.org - Alien Arena |

Cheapy: I've actually planned some obscenely wacky mods in the past, but never gotten around to doing them. The serious stuff draws me in more these days, I suppose.
My favorite mods would have to be Airquake, Prydon Gate, and Frikbot. Other close favorites include Ren's TAOV, and Dr. Shadowborg's mods (because of the level of detail and expertise he puts into his weapons... it just works really well!).
And can I consider Nexuiz a quake mod?
I'll post more as I think of them. Lots of stuff is escaping me atm. _________________ When my computer inevitably explodes and kills me, my cat inherits everything I own. He may be the only one capable of continuing my work. |

I'd say CocoT's Quakability Bot Arena is one of my all time favorites, but it has FrikBot in it so I don't know if that violates the self promotion rule.
Edit: Added link

Some of the most memorable mods I've played are Dual of the Fates, Hurried Descent and Slide. _________________ Forum lurker |

FrikaC : It doesn't, it has the Tutorbot, so it's no problem lavishing praise on it hehehe... And, thanks, I'm honoured _________________ http://www.planetcocot.net/ |

Oh crap, I thought it was an old FrikBot. It looked way too smooth for Tutor. Also my memory is hazy, haven't fired up Quake in a year
I really loved the mod though, played it for hours. I know it's one of the best because it immediately inspired me to go and try to make my own clone of the concept. I failed because I thought your original just had nailed it so perfectly that my version would be entirely redundant.
Hurried Descent is also up there in terms of awesome. |

I didn't miss the thread really... being as I posted on it a half a year ago. Just figured I'd start a thread where people were actually putting download links up so people could try others' favorites in hopes of gaining new fans and such. _________________ Inside3D : Knowledge Is Power

I really like Conquest, Reinforcer, and dpmod.
Conquest was one of the earlier mods I found when I showed up here, and I think I liked it because of the interesting (but not over the top) weapons, the gold-based buying system, and the new and interesting enemy upgrades and such.
Reinforcer is a really fun and unique mod, which I think would be even better with custom maps (I made one custom map, bsp, lit, map). I like that it is something completely different, and the gameplay has a great new strategy element to it. A well done mod.
dpmod is just a more awesome, action-packed version of Quake. It largely stays true to the original gameplay of Quake, but adds a huge load of things where you think, "Why wasn't that in there to begin with?", as well as things that just make sense (like getting a weapon a dead enemy just had), and things that are really pretty cool (like shell casings, etc). _________________ woh... feelin woozy... too much cider...
