ftp://ftp.sunet.se/pub/pc/games/idgames
ftp://ftp.sunet.se/pub/pc/games/idgames2

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOoooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo

Although there are other mirrors with the bulk of idgames2, sunet.se was the only one available with the planetquake folder, hence losing alot more mods that haven't had their files hosted under the other non-pq idgames2 folders.

Fortunately, I mass downloaded everything but the planetquake folder prior to this

Darn, I needed something from the planetquake folder there. That's bloody annoying. More Quake history lost.

Cheapy found a backup mirror.

ftp.lublin.pl/mirror/ftp.cdrom.com/pub/

However, given the current situation, I highly recommend that anybody who needs anything from the old cdrom PQ mirror, do so as soon as possible. Additionally, I seriously recommend that somebody download the entire contents of the mirror, and burn them to CD, so as to ensure that the contents of these important directories are preserved.

I propose building a concrete bunker (steel reinforced) with no less than 21 inch thick walls, using a hardened steel door, with a concrete slab stopper. Inside the bunker we place the contents of the cdrom.com mirror engraved on stone (granite) tablets with a inscriptions along the walls in all the world's languages explaining how to convert the binary tablets back into computer files. Instructions to be left outside that it's not to be opened unless we lose our backups.

I just contacted the sunet admin. Maybe the files aren't yet deleted so I can get them. I would set up a "mirror" at Quaddicted as long it's >~6 GB and my webhost doesn't kill me Wink

That .pl link doesn't work for me: edit -> ftp://ftp.lublin.pl/mirror/ftp.cdrom.com/pub/ does...

I think I might have the /planetquake folder on some CD, I'll take a look Smile

I've got the chance to grab the files we need tonight.

Since my downspeed is "only" 250kbyte/s (I can make it ~900kbyte/s but that seems to be very unstable unfortunately...) transfering such huge amounts of data as in the whole /idgames2 folder would take much too long. Is it enough if I limit the download to only the /idgames2/planetquake folder without the *planet, planet*sub-folders? Is the rest of the idgames2 archives/mirrors identical?

I will upload as much Q1 content (and Q2 too?) afterwards to Quaddicted. I will need to sort out the other unnecessary folders then (maybe someone could already start a list?). What doesn't fit on my webspace will be available as BitTorrent and always by mail on request at least. Maybe some other people could get partials of the archive online too.

Unnecessary folders:
*planet
planet*
battlegrounds
bgchronicles
blood2
classicgaming
half-life
hereticii
hexenworld
lvl
qdq
sda

The func_ crew would want quakelab up there...

You can skip quake1, quake3, and possibly quake2 as well.

Cheapy, you might have some more lost mods soon...

I've already got myself a don't-need-list. Problem is just that I only have http/html access at the moment and all the html filegrabbers/spiders like wget or Free Download Manager won't work properly. My directory ignore list is too long for wget and FDM is just too stupid. I hope that I can get ftp access, that would be much easier.

I mailed to the 3dgamers guys:

Quote:
Hi,

Looks like I forgot to reply to this last month. We obtained a copy
of the PlanetQuake archive last March from ftp.sunet.se, shortly after
they ceased carrying all games-related archives. It was stored under
/pub/mirrors/ftp.planetquake.com/ but I guess I should have symlinked
it into the idgames2 directory too. I did that now:

ftp://archives.3dgamers.com/pub/idgames2/planetquake/

It's actually 37 GB, btw Smile Thanks for your interest,
Frans
