LordHavoc, just some notes on the March 14th build:
1. Yeah, I can't connect to any NQ servers at all; it says "Connection Accept to 123.123.123.23:2323" and then nothing. I could with the October build.
2. Loc support. When I use the ProQuake style locs in DP, it doesn't look like it parses quite right and prints things like "190 Red Armor Room" with just the %l variable. The 190 is one of the coordinates in the loc file that defines the box so it seems to not quite be 100% interpreting the loc files right.
3. con_closeconsoleontoggle 1 <--- yeah, it's not new but I love that.
4. For some reason my gamma works with this build and it hadn't worked in DarkPlaces with my GeForce2 since the August 2005 build (go figure).
I played around more with the latest build and I really like it and can't wait for the connecting to NQ servers thing to work to try it out.
I saw HUD replacement elements used in that 1 GB texture pack on some German site and I need to study those. I also need to play around with the particles text file a little.
I'm glad to hear that DarkPlaces can be queried by the old Quake protocol (and hence the QuakeOne.com server browser) when running under the Quake protocol, I'll have to look into that and seeing if we can get a DarkPlaces server setup.
I personally find ProQuake borderline annoying, but with nothing to displace it what can you do? However, with the cumulative changes made in the last year to DarkPlaces, I think DarkPlaces is very close to being able to largely replace GLPRO (wqpro can't be replaced, of course). |

Monster and scar3crow have had problems at various times, I do not have any information about why this happens, or why it only happens to certain people, or why it changes from day to day for some people.
Information on this topic would be much appreciated.

Fixed.
Note however that the schloss.loc you sent me has a few broken lines that neither DP nor ProQuake can parse (ones with 7 numbers instead of 6, and some have 3 numbers, then a double comma, then 3 numbers).

Now the default, to end the stream of complaints.

Will wonders ever cease...
I tell you Windows gamma is voodoo.

The query code was bugged but is fixed in the build I'm posting today (the 15th), so yeah now q1 query tools work.
The whitehot server needs upgrading, it's still running the 2006 build.

I have often toyed with the idea of writing a software renderer for DarkPlaces, but it would look the same as hardware, so that wouldn't appease the wqpro nuts
DarkPlaces lacks a software renderer because all software-only PCs have long since been retired |

What kind of information would help? In older builds (before 7/25 if I recall correctly) I would intermittently have connecting issues. With the 7/25 and later, it always connected (or almost always).
The October build connected nearly 100% of the time (or maybe 100%, I can't quite recall).
But this one, I have only successfully connected 1 time out maybe 30 attempts to connect. I'll do some more experiments with it, but of course I can connect to DP servers just fine.

Making locs has historically been a major hassle so it doesn't surprise me if I made a mistake in the schloss loc with a comma or quote (I had to do it by hand).
I'll read up more on your loc making tool.

I stopped using DarkPlaces around August because I got tired of being killed because I tapped tilde to close the console and it typed a tilde
Yeah, seems like a small enough thing but it made me miserable, heh

I'll let Canadian Sniper know, but most of the "QuakeOne.com" domain servers are someone else's server we've DNS'd to make the name easy to remember.

Although I am not a Microsoft fan, the fact that Vista seems to virtually require a nice graphics card to me comes across as a plus.
I hope those Intel Integrated Media cards they stick in every Intel laptop play well with OpenGL and DarkPlaces. If so, software renderers might not be very important in the future. |
