(For those of you who live in cupboards) it's a Darkplaces based deathmatch standalone game. Check out the new video on the site.

..okay, this is better than I thought. That's a pretty decent looking game from what I'm seeing in the video. I'm looking forward to its release! _________________ When my computer inevitably explodes and kills me, my cat inherits everything I own. He may be the only one capable of continuing my work. |

I'm very impressed.
I had to reduce the resolution to 16 bits per pixel, but other than that the game looked great. I loved the weapons, they're both beautiful and functional, though I had trouble hitting anything in multiplayer because of the lag. ^_^
I really like the look of this game. Tell your mappers, modelers and graphics artists that they did a fine job!
I am impressed by the number of servers, although several disconnected shortly after I joined -- which leads me to believe people don't like me. (j/k) While lag has always been the bane of my existance (I haven't learned to handle it well), it wasn't unplayable. I'd love to give this thing a go on a lan server... and I'll bet I could do that with lots of friends at the college (we occasionally hold gaming nights).
I'd love to do a few mods of this game. It would be cool to make a Team Fortress Nexuiz, a few weapons mods... I even saw someone on a server say "I'd really like to see a realism mod for this game". Found that one amusing -- isn't one of the goals of Nexuiz to kind of pull away from the realism games? Well, I imagine it wouldn't be too hard at all to jump into modding it, since it's based off of Quake1.
...though so very much has changed!
I had fun! All in all this is a very well-done game, and I'm quite impressed that you not only did this as an open source game, but also managed it completely over the internet, instead of working in the same building. Bravo, guys!
I'll have to share this with my friends
(excuse me while I fantasize about having friends... ooh that'd be nice...) ;D
and get some lan parties going to celebrate.
And this is going to be a hit at QExpo, too! _________________ When my computer inevitably explodes and kills me, my cat inherits everything I own. He may be the only one capable of continuing my work. |

I've played it a bit. The game definately has potential. With all the effects on, it hard to tell it's the Quake 1 engine. Very very cool.
On the bad side - the range of weapons, weapon physics, and weapon sounds are absolutely rubbish. It never should have been released in this state. When I fire a weapon, I want the bloody thing to hit somebody, not hang around, read the paper, have a cut of tea, and finally hit the bloody wall and sound like a week old lettuce.
They should have let Wazat consult/beta test with regards to the weapons. He would have shown them the way.
Sorry to say, but I wont be playing it Nexuiz in this state. |

I'll try this out when the bots are sorted. Real people are scary. |

I wonder... Would frikbots presumably plug into the game without difficulty?

Frikbots are plugged in to the game but with a lot of difficulty. They're totally messed up and hardly work. I had a go at fixing them but to no avail, so I'm writing my own bots. _________________ Apathy Now! |

Impressive work, really. I've always been a fan of turning Quake1 into a platform able to load as many maps from as many games as possible, and I must say I was really impressed by the smoothness of the Q3 map loading. That said, it is true that the weapons models and sounds could need a little more work. The effects are nice , though and I like the background music
I'm definitely going to look more into Nexuiz, as it seems to offer a really nice platform to work on. So far, I have managed to load Half-Life maps but haven't yet fiddled with graphics yet, so textures don't appear. I was excited when reading earlier messages that Q2 maps might be supported but didn't manage to load one, maybe it's me who misunderstood. I tried out a FAKK2 and a Heretic2 one but they wouldn't load either (just an observation, of course, not a complaint )... Hopefully some people will find way to turn Nexuiz into the multi-maps-loading platform I have been dreaming of! I also love the way "regular" (read older, simpler, no engine-based) Q1 mods load easily after minor tweaking.
As far as bots are concerned, well, until Mauve designs a real FriBot support (with Nexuiz weapons, player models and such), well, just know that you can still play "regular" DM quake on any of the maps Nexuiz loads by just moving files around a little bit. Here are some screenshots of Ultimate Quad Capture with bots working on one of the game's maps

It seems to have trouble with Q1 lifts but I am very impressed with what i've seen so far of it's map support. It's a great boon to a game like this to have such a colossal pool of maps available.
I would like to see better map sorting though and support for Q3 thumbnail images, makes things easier for those of use with heaps upon heaps of imported maps. |

Yeah, it has trouble with q1 lifts, though LordHavoc can't figure out why since the lift code was lifted directly from id's code :/
Ok, so the bots are now done and commited, and will be in the first patch to be released any day now. _________________ Apathy Now! |

CocoT: Nexuiz was a purely gamecode & media project. The engine code itself is stock DarkPlaces (although a few Nexuiz-specific features were added to the DarkPlaces engine).
The DarkPlaces engine doesn't support a whole lot of map formats yet, although it loads Q1BSP and Q3BSP which is very nice. Heretic 2 used a (perhaps modified) Q2BSP format, which isn't yet supported. FAKK2, I believe, modified the Q3BSP format so it isn't supported (yet?).
P.S. You might want to look into Spike's FTE engine. It is rather insane, supporting Q1, Q2, Q3, and even Doom maps! (I think...) It also acts as an IRC client, an HTTP server, and rumours have it that it can act as perfect toasting software if you install it in a toaster (?) It still has the software rendering module (even with 32-bit colour), and it can run the Quake game, the Hexen 2 game, and even the Quake 2 game and is compatible with all network protocols, including NQ/QW. Only problem is it's unpolished and perhaps a bit slow, and has perhaps a few more bugs than DarkPlaces. _________________ F. A.
