I got some questions regarding some Quake mods, that some of you might help me with:

1. Baker, you sent an email to the owners of Shrak and Malice a while ago (read it on QuakeOne). Got any answer? What's your position on me hosting these mods on QuakeWiki.net? They're abandonware.

2. Question #1 brings me to the next one, do any of you guys have Malice? I had it but I lost it somehow.

3. I tried decompiling the Nehahra progs.dat. No chance. Used frikdec and proqcc -dec. I know they compiled it using some Pascal related executable file, something weird. No source decompiling flame please.

4. Can I play Nehahra using the latest DarkPlaces build? Or the nehahra.exe file is a modified DarkPlaces engine? I saw the source somewhere?

Thanks in advance.

1/2. http://www.amazon.com/dp/B0009K000G/
http://www.amazon.com/dp/B0007ZLIWC/ ; also there is no such thing as "abandonware".

3. Nehahra source was made available at one point

4. Yes, though for the "game" you will lack mod file playback (though modplug is supported)

Shrak and Malice are pretty cheap. Didn't think of searching Amazon.

I have Malice. It's really quite good. Of course I can't upload or link it.

What's XD?

Another question: Do any of you have the After the Fall QC source? I tried decompiling it using frikdek and it yields errors. ProQCC does the job but the source is incomplete and it does not compile back.

Regarding my "abandonware" statement, all commercial mods, or closed-source mods are now abandoned. Sure, Malice and Shrak are for sale on Amazon, but what's the worst thing that could happen for posting such mods on QuakeWiki.net? A warning email.

I tried today to email the team of After the Fall. No chance. All mails bounced back. It's a closed-source mod. Why? It was released free but without source. It happened in 1997. Those modders are grown-ups now, with children and stuff. I'm sure they're not gonna be bothered if some decompiled source popped up somewhere on the internet.

So, do not overlook my question Wink I still need the ATF source.

I found Nehahra QC source. It's awful. It's a combination of something and Pascal and QC.

What other ways for decompiling a progs.dat do you know? (apart from frikdec and proqcc-dec)

Thanks.

EDIT: I'm not going to post any commercial mod or decompiled source without a written consent of the original author, or a strong support from Inside3D community. All my requests are for personal use only. Not trying to start a war.

The worst that will happen is people despising you or your site. That being said I would host all those old commercial things (apart from Quake and its 2 "proper" missionpacks itself) if I finally got the motivation (or external help) with some good reviews of them. I actually already have the files uploaded.

In my opinion: Just do it. Be very clear about the legal situation (unless you want to protect yourself from possible issues with the right holders by deliberately pretending you thought it was legal).

Got your point Spirit. Don't know yet about it, still have lots of things to organize regarding my Quake ideas and projects. But if I'll do it, it will have strong disclaimers and legal stuff. As much as possible, anyway.

You mean the authors, right? I guess the community will be happy to have all these mods available.

Quite a few members of the community are... particular... about copyright law.

Yes, the community rather. And it is good that people consider rights very important. Very very good.

I am kind of a hypocrite on this particular topic though as I do not feel anyone getting hurt. Embarassed Not to mention that I find the laws flawed about expiration.
