who cares anymore
some overrated hl2 mod will win, and also in the standalone games category some unfinished bloom-filled unreleased game will win then cancel soon later
so what's the point anymore _________________

A little recognition, for starters. Would be good for the community if a few Quake mods got into the top 100, at least. And of course, there are several categories to win (or at least be runners up) in. _________________ woh... feelin woozy... too much cider...

let's be realistic here
Our votes won't matter against hundreds if not thousands of yes-kids who vote for gfx and anything on Source. _________________

CheapAlert - If youre looking for victory, sure. However from what you have said, their opinion of you does not matter, and thus you shouldnt care about the opinion of the group as a whole.
But I dont think Entar is in it to win, he is in it to build awareness. With each vote he receives, regardless of winning or losing, that count says to others "That many people care about this Quake project. That many people are willing to give a Quake project, which can be standalone, a real look and consideration."
Yes, the majority of votes will most likely go to that which uses the Source 'engine' generically and indulges pop-fps concepts. But were not necessarily running for the presidency, were just running for the sake of building awareness. It is of little cost to the Quake community and of greater benefit to us for the sake of the possibility of increased awareness.
What is hurting the Quake community today? A lack of people. Sadly, peoples response to this problem, is to leave. But Quake is still fun to play, but its better with more people, mods are still fun to play, but its more rewarding with more people, maps and mods are fun to make, but it is nice getting a larger audience, newsposts are fun to write, but it is nice having a larger audience. Quake's quality has never decreased, it still posesses all of the elements that made people fall in love with it 10 years ago. Entar is working to help rectify this by appealing to interest and popularity.
For every person who votes for a Quake project on moddb, it says to that entire community, that many people still respect Quake as a game and a platform. Go vote, or silence yourself on the issue of community and populace. |

I voted for entar's engine before I even tried it (didn't watch the movie), though I suspect it won't help all that much since to even promote awareness the count figures have to be availible for everything that got voted on... And I didn't see any easy to access link on the awards homepage to see how the results were going.
Incidentally, nice engine Entar! I liked the transparent water without needing to vis, though I somewhat dislike what it does to the default sky textures... (the engine in general not the transparent water... Then again, most likely a lot of engines do that.) Something I think would be cool is scriptable hud configurations though. _________________ "Roboto suggests Plasma Bazooka." |

Dr. Shadowborg: The only thing that it does to the default sky textures can be remedied by putting r_skyfactor to 1. It just scales up the sky a bit, setting it to 1 puts at regular (if it's not already).
Thanks for all your support. Hopefully this will get a little more exposure for the Quake community, and we can get a few new recruits. _________________ woh... feelin woozy... too much cider...

Liked a lot your demo, Entar. Nice job. Also, just voted for your engine. Good luck showing those people that our old dog can learn a few new tricks yet. _________________ frag.machine - Q2K4 Project
