The reason Quake mods/TC's aren't listed on indie sites is mostly because they usually don't have enough indie spirit. Doom mods have been listed, so there's no other excuse really. _________________ Look out for Twigboy |

You tell me what to do to get Solitude up on one of those sites, and I'll do it. Obviously, I don't want to have to redesign the whole game, and get rid of everything related to halo _________________ Working on Solitude |

I'm no spokesperson of what makes indie and what doesn't, and picking inspiration from existing IP hasn't been a problem for other projects when getting mention on these sites. Generally though, people do brush off your work as cheap and dull if you don't bring something of your own to the formula. Sure, your game might be Halo inspired, but it could be a Halo roleplaying game, with you playing as a Grunt. Or a polarbear with a cowboy hat.
A commonly loved ingredient is low-def 2D graphics. Speaking of basing on existing IP, and low-def 2D, FAUCET's Gang Garrison anyone?
Anyway, once your project starts showing more than potential (proper gameplay videos or perhaps something playable), I'd suggest showing it to RPS, and other similar indie-friendly sites.
Honestly, there are loads and loads of guides online which give you advice on making it as an indie, no reason for me to repost what they've said. Read them. _________________ Look out for Twigboy |

Unless we're trying hard to mimic Pixel (aka god, to indie dev scene), or adopt some strict form of bland pixel artery, or have abstract 'minimalist' stuff considered 'revolutionary', or homage to evile (valve games are like gaia's apples), or even just being 'funny' (not subtle qake funny, but this new form of 'lulz' funny spearheaded by AutisticMo...Gmod10) we won't get any attention there.
On the other side of the ring, there is the open source/linux gaming scene. They'll go for a clone of anything commercial, no matter what effort it takes. This is the very audience i'm targeting with my projects, because I put my focus into the art/sound data creation rather than the ground-up designing/coding. It's an easy bunch to impress if you're an artist, or even a coder doing a clone with just 'programmer art' will be just as big. Another problem though, the abundance of multiplayer-only games is strong there, and there is little interest for single player and cooperative. Most of them are only along for the ride just to 'stick it to the man' in the name of Free Software, which is a poor reason, imho. _________________

Yes! It would totally make it.
EDIT: submitted it to tigdb, but they might whine about it not having a dedicated homepage. Make one? _________________ Look out for Twigboy |

PSP Platform is Cool to think of it as if MDave had not really done Kurok a lot of the younger generation (Myself and Others) Would not have tried out this "Scene".
Many PSP "Think they are Indies/Standalone" are mods at this stage, last time I counted there were 15 Quake/Kurok Mods. And well about 5 of them have coding done and are closer to the "Indie or Standalone (No more quake). (Colbalt Runner, Solitude, Kurok, L4Q, to name a few there are about another two or three with coding done.) |

Hmm, I hadnt seen much in the way of Solitude screenshots but they obviously seem more than a pack of 13 year old fanboys trying to make a weekend mod, cool! Also on their website a nice refresher course how to convert 3ds models to mdl http://www.moddb.com/games/solitude/tutorials/importing-models-in-to-quake, which is kinda the way i attempted it a couple years ago but never got it working. I was obviously missing the quick3d part! And since most of these PSP mods should work on the PC i'm eager to see what emerges in the coming year. |

Thanks r00k, for a minute there I thought you said we did look like a pack of 13 year old fanboys
Just something relevant to this topic, and a slight shameless plug. Solitude has managed to squeeze into the top 100 mod and indie games of 2009 over at moddb. Seeing as how there are 5 spots for the award of upcoming indie game of the year, with only 8 candidates, I think we've got a pretty good chance of making it.

This might be the start we need to get indie games based on Quake some more recognition, and ofcourse I'll be rather happy if Solitude goes anywhere. _________________ Working on Solitude |

Actually, Left4Quake doesn't have any coding done and they don't have a coder.
Cobalt Runner is being made by Downsider/BreadSticks.
Kurok isn't being officially worked on I think, MDave, please correct me if I am wrong.
Also, MDave, I would like to discuss some things about Kurok with you, I have an idea that I want to do but I need/want permission and have it somewhat official.
Really, the PSP has a lot of potential, Quake is already the best fps on the console it self.
I for one play Quake on the PSP on my engine more then I play it on the pc by far. _________________
