Long
ago, some 200 years, there was a great war between Quake and
Earth. Millions died on each world, but after decades of fighting
the war eventually ended. Earth had beated its enemy. Admitting
defeat, what was left of Quake's creatures closed all slipgates
and retreated to build up their home once again. Their mother,
Shub Niggurath had been destroyed by a single human. Their leader,
Chthon, having lived millions of years as a god to the world,
had been electrocuted by the same single human.
On
present day Earth, the war had been something of history lessons.
All that had lived in this time of horror had long since passed
away. All known slipgates had been destroyed. But deep within
the caverns of the earth, a new gate had just been discovered.
A slipgate back to the hellish world of Quake.
You
were part of a secret organisation that had been alerted of
the discovery. The military and governments had no idea it existed,
and your organisation were jumping at this advantage. You are
a soldier - the lucky soldier of hundreds, and have been ordered
to be the first to touch enemy soil in centuries. You and another
soldier are to enter Quake and report what is left of the dark
world. Maybe there is alien technology to be stolen. But your
job is only to remain in the shadows.
The
time had finally arrived, and you waited with your partner to
step into Quake. It was an extremely dangerous mission, but
you were eager to become a part of history and see the enemy
world with your own eyes.
It
was dark. You were in some kind of dungeon. A chill ran through
your spine. Your partner stepped through behind you. The walls
were grimey and dirty. A rough brownish metal with skulls engraved
along the top. You move forwards, hesitantly stepping through
the odd shaped doorway into a hall. The muddy ground was damp
and soft with slime. Creeping silently and trying to be part
of the shadows, you both get the fright of your lives when you
hear a sudden thump from behind. Staggering back against the
wall, your partner jumps towards the wall on the other side
of this tight corridor. You spin and raise your weapon, ready
to fire. You can't see the creature properly, but it hovers
in the shadows. It knows you are there. You wait for it's response.
It may be a small animal, and you don't want to sound your shotgun
without the need. The shadow starts to move backwards, retreating.
You feel relieved. You had no idea this was a trap, as two Hell
Knights emerged behind you. All you heard was a loud thump and
a bright display of fire coming from the Hell Knights hand and
burning into your flesh.
You
wake up in pain, and let out a groan as you realise it was not
all just a nightmare. Looking down you can see a poisonous slime.
You are sitting in a tiny cage hovering above the foul smelling
liquid. You can see another two cages hanging next to you, one
holds the other soldier, dead and rotting.
It
feels like you've been hanging in this cage for a long time.
You are much skinnier and now have a beard. It could have been
weeks. Your people obviusly aren't coming for you, and if you
stay in this cage you're going to die. In the great depression
your mind has suddenly fallen into, being so close to death,
a sparkle of light shows it's face, as you realise you still
carry your axe and shotgun! The creatures must have thought
you were already dead when they placed you in this cage. It's
time to carve your way out and escape!
