Ver 0.93 New version as of 02 Jan 1997 Works for Ultimate Doom v. 1.9 and Doom2 v.1.9 I *think* I got rid of the chainsaw noise when using the bayonet. Unzip this archive (M16.ZIP) into your DooM or Doom2 directory; it has to be there to work. It will work for either DooM or Doom2, but not across directories. If you want to use this on both games, then unzip the archive into both directories. Run the file M16_IN.BAT; this will make a copy of your original DOOM[2].EXE file and call it DOOM[2].OLD, and then it will modify your DOOM[2].EXE file upgrading your weapons to the new specs. It will also add all the unmodified sprites from your DOOM[2].WAD into M16.WAD, making it usable. Run DooM[2] with M16.WAD to get the new sounds and graphics (use the command line option <-file [optional.wad] ... M16.WAD>). M16_IN.BAT will run the game for you the first time. If you keep your .wads in a different directory (I do) you can move M16.wad there now. By the way, the finished M16.wad will work with both Doom2 and Ultimate Doom (hasn't been tried with earlier versions). What does all this get you? To begin with, it makes you right-handed (apologies to all you lefties -- if you want it back southpaw style, get WinTex and go for it). Beyond this is: A pistol that fires as fast as a real semi-auto and ejects brass. A semi auto shotgun that fires as fast as a real one and ejects shells. A full-auto M16 rifle that ejects brass and will go through ammo in a hurry! An M203 grenade launcher that will grease a cyberdemon with one shot, but it's S-L-O-W to reload (just like the real one!). Also, you have a much better chance of shooting through a window without fragging yourself. (NOTE: for now this looks just like the M16 rifle -- the M203 doesn't show -- I'm working on it). A plasma gun that doesn't kick up to block your view of the bad guys. A BFG-9000 that's a "little" faster to shoot. No chainsaw (your marine buddies didn't leave chainsaws lying around!) instead you get a bayonet (works just as good as the chainsaw). Oh,yeah, you punch faster, too; after all, Marines are in shape!! If you want to return to the classic Doom[2], just run M16_OUT.BAT from your Doom[2] directory and it will do the trick as long as you haven't deleted DOOM[2].OLD. This version is not 100% finished, but it IS 100% functional. I still need to change some of the lesser sprites, and I want to redo some of the M16 and M203 sprites so that they show up better. It'll end up being an M4 Carbine for those of you who know what that is. The kind of stuff I mean is, for instance, you still see a chainsaw lying there before you pick it up; I still need to do the graphics for the srpite of the M7 bayonet. Don't worry, you'll get the right item when you pick it up. If you have any suggestions or ideas for improvement, e-mail me at: Bob@keyway.net I borrowed heavily from another M16 DooM patch and the autoshotgun patch, but ended up redoing most of them because better tools are now available. I was unable to contact those authors, and I REALLY hope that they don't mind my using their ideas to build from. I used WinTex 4.0c and DeHackEd 3.0a and Doom2 ver 1.9 to make this. Many thanks to ID Software and the authors of the tools. Anybody who wants to may use this as a part of their own non-profit projects; if you plan to make money with it, I want a cut! Enough of this! There's Demons to slay, so Lock and Load!!
