A Superior Front End Copyright 1996-2000 mortlgrn@sonic.net Author of - The M J Doom Page http://www.sonic.net/~mortlgrn/doom.html Version 1 Features: Works with Doom, Doom2, Heretic, and Hexen Allows use of almost every option, including: -unlimited PWADS! -unlimited DeHackEd/HereticHackEd patches! -devparm (screen shots with F1) -extensive modem/serial/network options -all possible combinations of every command line option! -EVERYTHING ELSE YOU WOULD EVER NEED! I've downloaded every front end at the ftp sites and they all possessed considerable drawbacks. Well now there's one that is without limitation! this program has it all. No matter how insane your organization scheme is, this program will work with it. This program will keep you from cluttering up your doom directories. And it allows fast access because it's all on one screen! The only thing you will need is a mouse. Other than that, you just need a VGA monitor, which you need to play the games anyway. Disclaimer: This program is provided as is. I am not responsible for anything that ever happens directly or inderectly as a result of using this program. Distribution: Please distribute freely. You may distribute this program, provided you include all the files in their original format, with no modifications. Notes: This program will copy over your hacked exe's so make sure you save the hacked exe as a patch before it zaps the changes. In some OS's Doom doesn't seem to want to take more than 4 wads if they are not all in the same directory; watch out, it may crash before adding the 5th wad. Timer doesn't work unless you play deathmatch or with other people. (you can play deathmatch by yourself) Demo's recorded from saved games don't work. Doesn't matter what front end you use. Demos have to be in the doom directory. The maximum of wads and dehacked patches is 100 each, after that you will see bugs. (reasonable limit isn't it? Need more just ask) Saved games don't record info regarding deathmatch, fast monsters, respawning monsters, no monsters, turbo, and timer. Make sure you select these if you want them. Help: The program is pretty self-explanitory. Just select your IWad and your EXE and you can probably take it from there. The first thing to do is select your exe and your IWad the IWAd will be either DOOM.WAD DOOM2.WAD HERETIC.WAD HEXEN.WAD DOOM1.WAD or HERETIC1.WAD the program uses the IWAd to write the DEHACKED.INI file and to determine the saved games, your doom directory, etc. (although you do not need to have the exe in the same directory; your doom2.exe will work with your doom.wad in case you didn't know-it might not play the demo, however) Let's say you were playing alienstc. You no longer need to keep the extra exe around. Just select the patch file (.DEH) and select the wads: the level wad, the graphics wad, the sound wad, etc. The front end will do the rest for you. If you are doing hacking, you need to select the exe editor (Dehacked or HHE) and a hacked.exe-if you don't have one just find a directory and type in the name you want it to be in the text bar. If you are playing a demo, the only thing that matters is wether developers mode will be on. (screen shots with F1) You can warp, or you can start from a saved game, or you can do neither. You save each setup-just type in the name in the text bar with the save button. Program automatically saves a default.sfe file.
