Wads_Up - A Doom Level Editor Version 1v1 22/04/94 - G. Whitehead gary@stek.demon.co.uk At: ocf.unt.edu as wadsup11.zip (Also wadsupex.zip contains sup files for Visual Basic) Requires: Windows 3.1 vbrun300.dll \ picclip.vbx \ uploaded as wadsupex.zip cmdialog.vbx / threed.vbx / Also Requires: Some sort of NODE builder. (eg. BSP by Colin Reed) Why Wads_Up? Simple to use. You shouldn't need to know all the intricacies of the WAD file to use it. Very quick at building up the basic structure of your level. You want to build a 12 walled room? Just type in 12, click on the map in two places and you have a 12 walled room. Move the corners of the room to desired position with the mouse. Want a corridor off this room? Create a 4 walled room. Merge one of the walls with one of the walls of the original room. Move the rest of the corridor to the desired position. It's done. Everything is defaulted and you can run it from there. No fiddling with sidedefs, sectors, linedefs, vertexes. It should all be done by the program. Change heights, textures, light levels, etc. Runs under Windows. Allows you to multi-task with DOOM itself, editing and playing levels without all the tedious booting up of DOOM. On v1.2 this only works if you don't a) Add/Delete Objects or monsters, and b) change the structure of the rooms. In v1.3 of DOOM, ID are catering for this functionality so you should be able to do this fully. Doesn't touch your DOOM.WAD file. (Unless you tell it to!) Can reference Multi-Wads for GFX, levels, etc. Why not Wads_up? You don't have Windows. You have an irrational hatred of Windows. You don't have a powerful enough pc. You prefer getting into the structures of the WAD and have many long free evenings to work them all out. What's in Wads_up? 100% Point, Click, Drag interface AGD: Auto Gap detection featuring advice on whether players can move up steps, under roofs, etc. Full save enabled (only registered DOOM) Editing done on interfaces as opposed to zones for much better understanding of level layout from editor. sidedef/linedef/etc structure hidden from user and presented in a more understandable way. Door editor for creation of doors (including key operation) in just a few simple mouse clicks. Easiest to use you're likely to see. Left and Right mouse clicks on walls in map selects sectors at each side of Wall. Multi-WAD capability. Load up your DOOM wad (So you can view GFX and get Texture info) and load up the WAD(s) you want to work on at the same time. NEW: Full level building. This is in it's first incarnation and any bug reports would be gratefully received. But, hey, It works for me. NEW: Any sector can now be made into a door. To install: If you don't have vbrun300.dll, threed.vbx, picclip.vbx or cmdialog.vbx then download the wsdsupex.zip. Move *.vbx and *.dll into your \windows\system directory Put the wadsup.exe anywhere. To use: Load up your master DOOM file (DOOM.WAD) to enable game saving. Pick a level to edit or load up a WAD file that you are already working on Edit it. Save the finished level as wadsup.wad Run a NODE builder on the WAD. (eg. the excellent bsp by Colin Reed - ocf.unt.edu /pub/doom/wad_edit/bsp11x.zip) Run doom on the finished wad, eg: doom -file tmp.wad Advice to WAD builders everywhere: Please DON'T upload wads that work with episode 1. You are basically giving all the people who haven't paid for DOOM more levels to play with, thus discouraging them from buying. The least we can do is respect the wishes of ID on this one. SMALL DISCLAIMER: This program is a tool, like a hammer. Hit yourself over the head with it and it ain't my fault!
