There are two teams - Gold and Silver. Each team has a flag. Points (frags) are awarded when players snatch the enemy flag and bring it to their flag. This is almost straight Capture The Flag. Hexen II has many features that affect and enhance the CTF experience. For example, the Chaos Device still works. Next time you get the "defense!" call, just hit the chaos device and *poof* you are home ready to defend. Also, I have added features such as Weapon toss, and decoy backpacks which should help with resource allocation and enemy deception, respectively. This is version 1.0. If it's popular enough, it will enjoy a long procession of upgrades well into the future. But for now, fire this baby up and latch on to a server near you. And go get our Flag! Type of Mod ----------- HexenC : yes Sound : yes MDL : yes Format of HexenC ---------------- unified diff : no context diff : no .hc files : no, not yet. progs.dat : yes, in the pak pak file : yes 1.1 - Where can I get HexDev Hexen II CTF? You can download it from this site: http://www.hexenworld.com/hexdev/ The filename is h2ctf_10.zip. I will post other locations as they become available. 1.2 - What Do I Need to Play Hexen II CTF? You'll need the following: Registered version of Hexen II The h2ctf_10.zip file available as per Section 1.1. Access to a TCP/IP Network of some sort. Any utility that can read zip files. 1.3 - What's New in 2.0? It's all bugfixes. Here's the list in no particular order: * New Phoebus sounds! You knew about his stint as the bassist for Seven Simons. Now hear him in H2CTF! * Experience now awarded for frags, captures, returns, defends and assists! * Welcome message now contains URL of HexDev. This is for the people who connect without having installed H2CTF v2.0. Now they'll have a clue where to get it. * Ice Skin bug fixed. Some players were getting stuck with a permanent ice skin after being frozen twice or more repeatedly without thawing. * Remote Admin interface fixed. Remote admin from raven observer mode is still disabled. * Crusader weapons weakened. In version 1.0, the meteor staff was just waay too much. "1 shot dead" - Keefo * Imps, Tornadoes and Ice storms now know about teams. * Tornadoes disappear when they get near enemy spawn spots. * Gold Team colors fixed. The red is shifted from assassins and paladins to Crusaders and Necros. Looks much better. * Map Pack. Got 7 CTF maps in there. Most are Raven maps. Two are "fresh". See Map Pack section below for more info. * Crash Bug. If there was a raven observer on the level when the level changed, the server would K-rash. Fixed. 2.0 - How to Install... If you already have version 1 installed, you can just install this baby right over the old one. Or you can manually delete the old pak0.pak file before you install version 2.0. It's your call. If you do NOT have version 1.0 installed, do this: Under your main HexenII dir, create a new dir called H2CTF. Unzip h2ctf_20.zip into H2CTF. Run Hexen II like this: h2 -heapsize 16000 -game H2CTF That will give Hexen II 16Megs of memory to run in. Tailor the 16000 number to meet your needs. The more the better. :) 2.1 - the Impulses 44 - drop item (just like regular ol' Hexen II) 45 - toss weapon or decoy backpack 46 - Cast Combo spell number one: Magnus Gravis 230 - Flag status report. 244 - show what team you're on 245 - print your location 247 - statusbar toggle 2.2 - The Grappling Hook We are using Perecli Manole's excellent SwingHook. The impulses have been aliased already via hook.cfg. The aliases are set up on startup and are bound by default to: SHIFT - throw the hook (hold down SHIFT to climb to the hook) h - slide down the chain. y - climb up the chain. This thing is so cool. It takes some getting used to though. It's not weapon based, like the old CTF hook, so you can fire real weapons while you use it. Also the damage has been minimized when you hook other players. It takes 1 hit point and doesn't stick. It takes time to master. It is a deep tool. Treat it with respect and it will reward you with life saving capabilities. If you want to configure the hook to use other keys, do this in the console: bind KEY1 +hook bind KEY2 +grow bind KEY3 +shrink Where KEY1 is the key you want to use the hook, KEY2 is the key you want to climb down the chain and KEY3 is the key you want to climb up the chain. 2.3 - The Levels I have included 7 levels with this release. I renamed them using a standard naming convention. They are h2ctf1.bsp-h2ctf7.bsp. Here they are. h2ctf1.bsp - This level was created by Headrot. He tells me that he plays H2CTF on a lan at school. When he emailed me the level he called CTF1.bsp, I nearly fell out of my chair. When I cranked it up in H2CTF, I fell the rest of the way. Giant echo chamber rooms. Tight constricted passages. Silver vs. Gold theme. Cool powerup placement. Hexen II CTF at its most primal level. h2ctf2.bsp - This is Tower.bsp from Raven. CTF-ized by me. h2ctf3.bsp - The Stables. Ravens Village3.bsp in its CTF form. By me. h2ctf4.bsp - Demo1.bsp from Raven. A tribute to Siege. Done by the skilled hands of Catalyst and ::Gloom::. h2ctf5.bsp - Demo2.bsp CTFified by Choc-ola. Fun map. Follows the Siege theme what with the castle and all. h2ctf6.bsp - Demo3.bsp CTF style. By Choc-ola. This one is the potential for some MAJOR action. h2ctf7.bsp - ISM.bsp from the Virtus HexMaker product. Choc-ola CTFized it for your amusement. Now all we need is a start level. :) 3.0 - Notes * The skins are the old Siege beta skins. They need to be worked on. This will be addressed in the next version. * The Combo spell, Magnus Gravis, is difficult to operate for a reason. The power it unleashes is incredible. Also, the ancient manuscript that describes its use was destroyed in some long forgotten conflict. No one knows even what the effects are, much less how to pull it off successfully. There is a legend about there having to be "...a hand plus one of men" cooperating. You might be able to work it after some proper research. If you are wondering if you did it right, you didn't. The effects of Magnus Gravis will be obvious and breathtaking. I assure you that. Question is, do you really have time to sit around and research the spell? I mean, what with all the enemies coming for your flag and all. :) * An ancient tapestry was discovered in the pit on H2CTF2. It depicts five men forming a circle around a glowing man. The runic text reads: "V humanus, V seconds, V Magnus Gravis" If only you had the manuscript! Maybe you can figure it out from the tapestry alone, eh? * Hexen II CTF version 2.0 includes a pack of 7 CTF maps. If enough new CTF maps come out, I'll do a release to support them. I will provide any new levels at my website, also. You are more than welcome to submit levels as well. Hexen II CTF needs a start level. Please, someone make one! 3.1 - Credits id Software. You guys are proof of a cornerstone of my personal ideology. That you actually can succeed by doing the Right Thing. Raven Software. What can I say? For all the long hours, sleepless nights and deep sacrifice, I thank you. You guys do all that the small glamourous companies do. And you don't get the compensation they do. I salute you. Zoid. All the CTF code is his. Thank you, Zoid. I love you. Perecli Manole. Thank you for providing the source to your most excellent SwingHook! :) Phoebus of HexenWorld. Number one prime Lord rocker of the Multiverse. Created 3 of the new sounds you hear in Hexen II CTF. Headrot. Made the first real Hexen II CTF level. Keep your eyes on this guy. Thanks, man. I hope you'll do more levels for us in the future. Keefo of GAF Central. Thanks for the ongoing support! It's like I did H2CTF for you alone. Heheh.. KeefoNet Rules! Mark (Choc-ola) Danielson. The extra console output from the crash bug helped me solve the problem. This release just would not have happened were it not for the great debug info you gave me. In all fairness, Keefo gave me the first server logs containing the problem. But you gave me the first CONSOLE logs that displayed the action I needed. Thanks, man. Also, Choc-ola CTF-ized Demo2 and Demo3 for us. And to top it off, he converted the Virtus Hexmaker level called ISM to H2CTF. Rockage! All the beta testers: Slayve, Cruce, Retlaw, Spodely, Phoebus (again:) Flame me if I forgot to list you here. /me winces. ::Gloom:: and Catalyst. The demise of the Siege project dragged H2CTF into existance. I would not have done this without these guys. Relics of Siege are still evident in H2CTF where I did not have time to do quality work. Skins, the Demo1 level, and the awesome Raven Observer mode. For all of this, I thank you deeply. Toadboy. You brought me weapons against the cheaters and annoying users that plague the gaming Internet. How can I repay you? Randal (Landar) Albertson. Thank you so much for notifying me about putting +mlook in the autoexec.cfg file included with ver 1.0. I'm sorry I left it in. I thought EVERYONE used mlook. Thanks for opening my eyes. :) Steve Morse Band. The Capture sound. User Friendly off of Coast to Coast. Ozric Tentacles. The Return sound and the Flag Take sound. These guys rock us all. 3.2 - Legalities Thank you, Activision, for making this so simple. *ahem* here we go... As per the Activision Utilities End User License Agreement by which I am bound, this all belongs to Activision. Contact them if you want to do anything besides play this mod.
