What doyou hope to achieve with Srt-Alpha?

The most realistic mod available. A cross between R6 (not enough action) and KingPin (ass kicking action)

Will it import a lot of ideas from the team's prevous mod, terror Quake 2?

Some of them. Kingpin itself had a lot of our ideas like pain skins, falling damage reload, etc. All we need to do is add the stuff like a weight system (more realistic than TQ2's) new weapons and items, and character generation Which is something new to SRT-Alpha

How will character generation work then? What will it do?

You will be able to select or modify characters during the entry into the game. But we are also making a program that allows you to build your custom configs before you even start the game in windows. Characters will have skills like sniper, assault weapon, throwing knives, etc. Attributes like strength, stamina, and stealth and will have Skills like demolitions, medic skills, etc. You select your skills, attributes, and proficiencies, and then outfit your character in the weapons and equipment you want. The player gets 30 points, and each has a point value

Havoc have also implemented a loactional damage system, will this work in the same way as Action Quake 2?

Yes, but we will try to include arms this time. Get shot in the arm and you can't reload until you bandage. That is if the arm damage works.

Will there be the continual blood loss, or do you agree that it can really just make the game awkward?

There will be continued blood loss for certain types of injuries, but there will also be the ability to get healed by someone with medic proficiency

Will the blood loss add balance, do you think? Balance?

I don't think about balance in that area. I want it to be as realistic as we can make it. Balance is like fairness, it is all in the eyes of the beholder

But in Action Quake 2, as soon as you got shot you started bleeding, had to bandage and couldn't fight back . . .it just depended too much on who got the first shot.

If I shoot you with my AK47 and you still run around, to me that's unfair or unbalanced. But to the guy on the other end, it may seem just right

I see your point, although I think a lot of people will hate those factors whilst others may like them. What will the maps be like?

Great! I think we have the best mappers. Gimp has such creativity, and Mex is a perfectionist in his work. Our maps will try to keep that great, dark, scary feel that makes KingPin such a cool game. But we will have a dynamic entity system that allows mappers to go balls-t0-the-wall in their control of the game. A mapper can make custom entities for any map, with models, functions etc. Example: A mapper wants the SRT-Team to have the ability to do an airstrike from anywhere on the map. He makes an item that does it (like a GLD) and then gives it a function like a weapon that explodes the area around the target, with a 1 min delay between the firing, and the explosion. etc. He can assign points to the team for goals he places, make the goal something like jailing the enemy, etc. None of which requires any new coding to the dll Infinte map possibilites, goals, items, etc etc

Sounds very versatile . . . it also seems to be a very ambitious mod, do you think that kind of entity scripting for mappers will change the way mod teams make their mods in the future?

I hope so. I'm not a big mod player in the sense some guys are. I don't try every mod that comes out or keep up with the competition. But I love the community. I love the exchange of tricks and ideas. Mod makers shouldn't worry about they ripped this, and I want to do that, but another mod already did it. Make YOUR mod the way you envision it. Use good ideas, and don't get so torqued if someone else had the same idea. Make it for yourself, and if people like your ideas, it will be popular. Don't make it trying to be popular, or you'll compromise your vision

So does that mean SRT-Alpha will be more concerned with quality than cosmetics?

I hope so. I'm just one of many, but that has always been my goal. I do skins, but If someone else in the team does a better one, then I vote it. Quality not ego.

So you won't be bothered that in the Mod City polls your mod won (apart from Virtual Hooker :)

I'm actually glad after thinking about it. I'm glad our approach to mod design is creating interest. I also want to play Virtual Hooker ;^)

A distressing amount of people do :P Tell me about some of the more original weapons in the game.

Well, like any mod, you think you're doing something original, until you look around and see eveyone else has the same idea. We will have the Berretta M92F, The Ruger Super Blackhawk .454 Casull, the Desert Eagle .50 AR the HK MK23 SOCOM, Glock 17, Mac 10, HK UMP, Stryker 12 street sweeper, SPAS 12, G36, AK47, SVD, MSG90, M249 SAW, M60, M33 frag grenade, Thermite grenade, flash grenade, molotov cocktail, C4, Sapper vest, and a bunch of modified versions of the listed weapons like lasers, multiple scope types, etc. Oh, and knives

That's a lot of weapons!

Yep, and we are looking at making some hand-to hand type stuff like pistol whipping your opponent with your ruger

Cool, what's the most fun weapon so far then?

Weapons are my bag baby. 14 years US Army, I love shooting and hunting My favorites are the sniper weapons

Are they 1-shot kills weapons?

Head and chest shots are usually like that. But we have body armor, Stamina increases etc. So there is a feel of reality, where most times you nail a guy in the chest he drops, but sometimes he keeps coming

Any other cool points you'd like to point out about Srt-Alpha? Other than 'it's good' :)

The game is under constant development like Terror Quake2. We are trying to make a system where the weapon damage and stuff can be tweeked but never have to re-code the mod. So eventually the players will be able to customize their own lan games, servers, etc. SRT-Alpha can be changed to Godfellas vs. Tongs, whatever you can dream. It will be a limitless possibility mod beyond what we do, and without a big mod designe team at your diasposal. Our fans can do almost anything they want with it and to it. Belive me, this is going to be more than just an anti-terrorist mod once it is completed
