--------------------------------------------------- DISPOSABLE HEROES --------------------------------------------------- To install the Quake I section of Disposable Heroes, simply run the file setup.exe from the CD-Rom... This installer will move all the necessary files to your hard drive and also make a copy of the Quake player model and install our skins into it for the Carnage patch. --------------------------------------------------- 1.0 Intro 1.1 What is Disposable Heroes? 1.2 How do I get updates? 1.3 Where do I get tech support? 2.0 Disposable Heroes 2.1 How do I use Disposable Heroes? 2.2 What are the patches? 2.3 What are the maps? 3.0 Credits 4.0 Copyright --------------------------------------------------- ---------- 1.0 THE BASICS ---------- 1.1 WHAT IS DISPOSABLE HEROES? Disposable Heroes is a deathmatch pack for Quake and Quake II, created by The Coven. The Quake section features 21 maps, 3 patches, and new player skins. 1.2 HOW DO I GET UPDATES? If any more maps are made for Disposable Heroes, or if we find any bugs that need fixing, you will find the updates at the Coven website - http://www.TheCoven.com 1.3 WHERE DO I GET TECH SUPPORT? If you have problems with Disposable Heroes, visit the Coven website. If there are any problems we'll post information on them there. If your question isn't answered, you can e-mail us from there... DO NOT contact id for Tech Support for Disposable Heroes! --------------------------------------------------- ---------- 2.0 DISPOSABLE HEROES ---------- 2.1 HOW DO I USE Disposable Heroes? The Quake section of Disposable Heroes comes with its own frontend. Simply run Q1FE.EXE (which will be installed in your Quake directory), tell it where your copy of Quake is the first time you run it, and then use it to set up and launch Quake. We have also included GameSpy tabs to help you find servers running Disposable Heroes. To install the GameSpy tabs, start up GameSpy, then pull down the "view" menu, go to "custom tab" and select "import". The tabs should be in your quake directory - madq1.qst finds MAD servers, carnage.qst finds Carnage servers, rocketj.qst finds Rocket Joust servers, and dh1.qst finds servers running Heroes maps... 2.2 WHAT ARE THE PATCHES? CARNAGE - Andrew Eglington and Colin Anderson Carnage includes a server-side bot (the ScotBot, exclusive to Carnage), new weapons (including a flamethrower and pipebombs), new equipment (including jetpacks and a holographic decoy), and corpses and items that you can blow up or shove around. MAD : ROCKET WARS - Patrick Martin Mutually Assured Destruction with this rocket launcher patch. Master a range of new rocket types, including the awe-inspiring "Tactical Nuclear Warhead". Find one, and you are truly become Shiva, destroyer of worlds! ROCKET JOUST - Patrick Martin Pilot guided missiles through a maze of tunnels to take out your oppenent(s) in this one on one or team deathmatch game. Features one exclusive rocket joust only map... The installer will copy a text file for each of the three patches to your hard drive. There should be a CARNAGE.TXT in the Carnage directory, a MAD.TXT in the MAD directory, and a GM.TXT in the Rocket Joust directory... These give full details of each patch. 2.3 WHAT ARE THE MAPS? CDMO1 - Thanatopia by Creed CDMO2 - The Lost City by Creed CDMO3 - Asylum by Creed CDM04 - Bloodwood by Zied Rieke CDM05 - Lucky Strike by Zied Rieke CDM06 - Slant Six by Zied Rieke CDM07 - Vector Garden by Zied Rieke CDM08 - Village by Chris Mayers CDM09 - Lord Fudge by Neil Manke CDM10 - Quatuor Elementa by Neil Manke CDM11 - Hexed by Neil Manke CDM12 - Forgotten Experiment by Marty CDM13 - Tomb Of The Lavalord by Rich Carlson CDM14 - Caves Of Carnage by Rich Carlson CDM15 - Hall Of The Gods by Trebz CDM16 - Nirvana by Trebz CDM17 - Slip Of The Tongue by Warren Marshall CDM18 - Quartet by John Bye CDM19 - Resurrect Me by John Bye CDM20 - NiteDM by Dan Huff CGM01 - Batackou by Dan Huff NOTES - CDM07 Vector Garden needs plenty of memory to run. Give it as much as you can or it may crash... This especially effects GLQuake. If you can't get it to run, try it in normal Quake. Because of its unusual design the ScotBots aren't much good with this one. CDM11 Hexed has a strange design as well, so fighting the ScotBots on this one isn't really fair either... CDM19 Resurrect Me is best played with the Carnage patch under GLQuake. CGM01 Batackou is only designed for the Rocket Joust patch, and is stored inside the Rocket Joust PAK file. Just load up the Joust patch and type MAP CGM01 at the console... --------------------------------------------------- ---------- 3.0 CREDITS ---------- The Quake section of Disposable Heroes features the combined talents of - Colin Anderson Jacob Bielanski John Bye Richard Dale Carlson Andrew Eglington Jon Hendricks Marty Howe Dan Huff Neil Manke Patrick Martin Warren Marshall Chris Mayers Daniel Nolan David Porcello Zied Rieke Shawn Swift Additional Personnel - Quake Frontend - Chris "Wilka" Wilkinson http://www.frag.com/tectonic --------------------------------------------------- ---------- 4.0 COPYRIGHT ---------- Disposable Heroes (TM) is (C) 1997-2000 The Coven Disposable Heroes is open source - you can redistribute it by any means, so long as 1) you do not sell it for profit, and 2) you include this text file in full.
