March 31, 1998 ======================================================================== * General Information * Title : Spawn of Anklebiter Filename : Ankle3.bsp Author : Hafhead (Tony Hafner) Email Address : hafhead@geocities.com Web Page : http://www.geocities.com/~hafhead Additional Credits to : id Software for such a great game Ben Morris and Valve for Worldcraft Geoffrey DeWan for his compile tools Description : Deathmatch Quake II Level This is an arena-style level. The main area has a cross-shaped area cut into the floor with a roof over it. There is a crack all the way around it, just wide enough to shoot through. Above this, there are two rafters with powerups on them. They would be great sniping spots if it weren't for the lasers scanning the area. Below it all is a small area where you get a brief chance to catch your breath. But the only exit from the basement leads right to the heart of the action... All weapons are present here. It is intentional that there is a BFG with plenty of ammo. The size of the map makes it easy to dodge the blasts and only take a minimum of damage from the rays. And besides, there are plenty of other weapons to choose from. I recommend playing withOUT the deathmatch option "weapons stay". There are enough weapons laying around that there is always something available, and this forces people to actually choose a weapon based on what's currently there. Also, you get some great central action waiting for the BFG to spawn. ======================================================================== * Running the Map * Put Ankle3.bsp into your maps directory (Quake2\baseq2\maps). Run Quake2, and bring down the console (by pressing ~). At the console, type "map Ankle3". The game will start. For multiplayer games, start the game first. Then bring down the console and enter the map command. Each player must have the .bsp file in his/her map directory. ======================================================================== * Play Information * Single Player : Don't bother- there's nothing to kill Cooperative : No Deathmatch : Yes- 12 starts, good for 2 to 8 players Difficulty Settings : No New Sounds : No New Graphics : No New Music : No Demos Replaced : None * Construction * Base : New level from scratch Editor(s) used : Worldcraft Known Bugs : None Build Time : About 12 hours to build the level, plus 8 or so more to fix the vis errors Compile machine : PPro 200 with 32Mb QBSP3 Time : 5 seconds QVIS3 Time : 4 second QRAD3 -extra -chop 0 : 162 seconds * Copyright / Permissions * This level may be distributed only over the Internet and/or BBS systems. It must be kept together with this text file intact. * Other Info * This is the 3rd version of Anklebiter. The original was a very fun, very simple, and fast-paced Doom II level. The second one was my first Quake level, and featured horrible poly counts. I've redone it again from scratch, and kept it very true to the first Quake version, but with approximately a 40% reduction in poly counts. The counts are quite reasonable, but as with any large area it bogs down a bit when a lot of players are fighting in the same place. Still, it plays pretty well. Bsp/Vis for Q2 suck eggs. Big stinky ones. ======================================================================== * Past Projects * If you like this level, you may want to see some of my other projects.
