Well I'll be damned...!

I just did some DirectQ! Nothing dramatic, just another clipnodes bug fixed (which in practice didn't have much effect, but it's still good to do) and added cl_maxfps for changing the server-side update framerate.

That really should be sv_maxfps, but other engines use cl_maxfps and so will I.

I had a typo I needed to correct. . .

Well, you ruined my work day today. I had been playing Zdoom for about a month, and was nearing completion of Doom II when I thought I should give Quake another go. What did I do? I read every single post, the entire archive of the blog. Now, after I've installed and gone through the first level of the demo, I don't know what to do; I should finish Doom II for the sake of it, but Quake is now amazing. No, my God, DirectQ is amazing! I know I only "followed" your blog in an 8-hour work day setting, but it was oh-so-well worth it. Wow, damn good work. The other Quake engines are nice, but this is amazing. Wow, again, and +1. Damn good job. Can't wait to check my RSS for the next post. You need a PayPal donate button, I mean that.

Random comments:

MH, DarkPlaces and I think FitzQuake use host_maxfps as the fps variable.

Most players ... like non-modders ... aren't aware the FPS variable affect physics in single player and mostly want higher FPS for better aim = mouse polling per frame.

(Of course, the less aware players just want it as a gauge of their video card.)

More comments will likely follow .. I hope this runs on this particular machine ...

Nice one, will do.

I'd be interested in knowing if it runs on your machine, by the way. ;)

Works just fine on my XP machine.

I noticed you can't record a demo after "being connected to the server".

Ironically, original DOSQuake allowed you to do that and doing any of the id updates, you can't.

ProQuake, JoeQuake and Qrack you can start recording a demo any time you wish. For example. But you can't in DarkPlaces, FitzQuake or really any other NQ engine.

Sometime I'll have to play some big maps with your engine to give it a real try out.

And something else ... you can't bind mouse4 or mouse5. Most modified engines, you can but not all of them. FitzQuake can't for example.
