John Carmack has left id Software.

I expected this sooner or later, now it is official: John Carmack has left id Software to fully concentrate on Oculus VR, he tweeted:

I wanted to remain a technical adviser for Id, but it just didn't work out. Probably for the best, as the divided focus was challenging.

That leaves Kevin Cloud and Tim Willits as only remains of the Quake development team at id.
