Old John Carmack interview (1997) about engines, licensing and Quake

I collect mentions of Quake in magazines (previews, reviews, etc) and earlier today realised that I had a transcription of one interview with John Carmack from 1997 sitting around. So here it is: http://www.quaddicted.com/magazines/pc_ … er_1997_uk

Enjoy!

unfortunately, he now has his rockets to play with, and with the id sale to bethesda, i suspect his dedication and interest is flagging - witness the savaging of rage. on the plus side, he wants to reboot quake! that will really help our little community grow just by association.

So much arrogance, it's sickening. I'm kinda glad that Epic won the engine battle in the end.

he does come off as quite a dick, doesn't he? heh...
he was right about the direction of the industry and such, but mistaken about his place at the center of it all. :P

thanks for this, spirit. :)
