yet people get incomprehensibly angry

That's not what you were complaining about. Of course I believe you but I haven't witnessed any anger regarding the situation, only sadness that the site was unavailable and wishes that the issue would be quickly resolved. It's sad that you have to suffer shit for something that you're not responsible for, even more so since you do all this work for free.

That site is able to log your user credentials (...) Also note how they hides who runs it and where.

Strange that someone like OTP would recommend such a site. Then again, he's against Tor for whatever reason...

Re: Help wanted for GDPR compliance

OK I have the basic framework in place under my user space; here are some issues that need addressing before it can go live:

  • Our policy references the "Terms of use" which is the primary user/site relationship establishing agreement on our site. Not strictly required, but it should be decided if this is wanted as well or if that reference should simply be removed.

  • Help:User_groups is referenced in attempting to explain who has admin access rights; if there's an alternate page for this on your wiki, it can/should be replaced with that. Could also create such an article on the Quake Wiki of course.

  • Third-party Content: If you use any analytics, tracker beacons, display any ads, or allow embedding of any external content (videos, audio, social media APIs, OAuth, etc) the domains need to be added in this section. If not (as I suspect), I can strike the entire section.

  • You will need to provide contact information for a Data Protection Officer. This should probably be whomever owns the server or has root access to the database and install folder.

  • There is a link to a main discussion page (Doom Wiki:Central Processing for us); I was not able to locate an analogue on Quake Wiki. Can remove or adjust this.

  • Will need your legal jurisdiction info (State and Country)

Re: Help wanted for GDPR compliance

Awesome, thank you so much!

* For the Terms of Use just link to the non-existent https://quakewiki.org/wiki/Quake_Wiki:Terms_of_use like you did, that should be ok for now.

* Group rights just link to https://quakewiki.org/wiki/Special:ListGroupRights

* There should be no third-party stuff so remove that paragraph.

* DPO should be quakewiki-dpo@quaddicted.com

* We don't have a discussion page (good idea actually!), just link to https://quakewiki.org/wiki/Quake_Wiki:Community_portal

* I am in Hamburg, Germany, the server sits in Falkenstein/Vogtland, Germany

Then we will just add a permanent link to the policy in the navigation and it should be good to go I think!

Re: Help wanted for GDPR compliance

And on the Quaddicted front I just added an annoying cookie consent script as required. I will need to add that to Quake Wiki as well, later.

Re: Help wanted for GDPR compliance

I got all those changes applied, moved it to the project namespace, and applied the change to the sign-up page via the system message like we used on Doom Wiki.

You may want to look into https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Extension:CookieWarning for providing a cookie notice in a manner that's friendly to MediaWiki.

Re: Help wanted for GDPR compliance

Spririt, does that mean we will be able to get back our beloved quaddicted.com in europe soon as well?

Re: Help wanted for GDPR compliance

Since apparently blocking EU IPs was not in any way a proper solution (no protection from the law at all) until the policy is done, I decided to risk it and unblock the site.

Help is still very welcome. Consider all the aspects of this site, find a good policy as a base, rework it for Quaddicted, you will be showered in gratitude.
