Finally, that stupid "yummyumm!" thing was driving me nuts.
This is clearly a 'first map' - but one that holds a strange mixture of good and advanced ideas and quite a bit of creativity, that clashes rather badly with a sore lack of training with the level editor...
If the author is willing to spend some more time learning the craft of editing and lighting, i believe we can see some truly amazing maps in the future!
I have chosen to ignore the lack of mapping skills and ranked this map a bit high, for the very interesting creativity and ideas.
Käty, thanks for your efforts, and thanks for sharing! I'm looking forward to see your next map!
Yeah some fun setups here. I always like a creative effort to make a place that feels like you can explore through it and poke at it. Obviously the lighting needs work (kind of too flat/bright in most spots) and the "trickle 1 or 2 monsters in at a time" combat triggering setup is overused. But I enjoyed it, and as a first map it shows the author is in the right headspace.
For me, this is the most interesting of the recent clutch of debut maps. It has all sorts of build-quality issues (gaps between brushes, bits of scenery to get stuck on, invisible walls) and makes some infuriating gameplay mistakes (you get the rocket launcher only after you've already killed everything) but all of that is forgiveable because of the sheer fecundity of ideas. I really hope Käty Olup sharpens up her craftsmanship and returns with more maps.
(I always rank and review maps before reading the comments of others. It's interesting now to see that The_Pirate's comments and my own are so nearly identical.)
