 Post subject: how to run client side bot to connect my own server?

can you tell me how to run client bot? I run Darkplaces on one machine which has a public ip, and then run client bot terminator to connect it. but the client bot keep sending connect request and no response. Is there something wrong with my server's setting? how do you set up your server?
what is your server application? darkplaces or other versions?

my guess is, locally, the server machine has a different IP address. What is the public IP of the server? I wanna see it!
