"Following
your successful adventures from Hard Target 2,
you have once again been chosen to be the first to infiltrate and clear
out an upcoming target. Not a simple task, nor was the last one. Word has
it that the Strogg has wind of an upcoming invasion and are readying themselves.
It is up to you to sneak your way in and knock out their defense forces
and get out in one piece. Time to earn another medal. But enough talk.Talk
is cheap, but bullets are cheaper. It is time to give that trigger finger
some exercise." ~Scott McNutt
Much
more than exercise here, Scott McNutt will give you a full fledged work
out with his excellent level entitled "First Strike".
Selected
as the winning entry in QERad's level design contest, "First Strike" is
an excellent showcase of the kind of talent that is cropping up at an increasing
pace. (The only drawback to this creative explosion is that these talented
level designers are being snapped up fast!)
The
plot is simple yet effective. Kill anything that moves and then get out
alive. It's the actual doing that is a bit complicated.
Ammo,
powerups and health are here in abundance. Half the fun is just scurrying
about and filling your pack with all you can carry, and there is plenty
to grab. You will most likely not be able to use all the goodies you encounter.
Aaah, but don't be fooled my friend. Because where there is an abundance
of life sustaining goodies, there is also an abundance of death wielding
Strogg. And this level is no exception. You will find yourself facing Strogg
in abundance and almost always in groups. Think one berserker is tough
in close quarters? Try two. And watch your back as you encounter a single
strogg, it is most certainly an ambush!
Whew...if
you like 'em packed with combat, "First Strike" is for you.
|
Aggressive,
tough combat. |
|
Mazaphobics
beware. Contains a maze like section. |
|
Beautiful
seamless build in the Id tradition with great combat situations. |
|
Another guard blocks your way in a crate and boxed filled hallway in "First
Strike".
Helping to clean the fetid air, this giant fan works overtime.
Looks like some sort of laser beam worshipping cult...
