"While
Bitterman is blowing up Strogg's main base, you have landed on another
Strogg base. No information is available about it and radio transmission
with the main ship is disabled. There's no other way out - just get into
the base, snatch information and do what you should (and would) do. After
that, escape alive, if possible." ~YooShin Yang
Just
when you thought it was safe to dive back into the new crop of level releases
you hear a loud bass "Da Dum, Da Dum" and you notice a fin sticking out
of that zip file.
Yep,
it's the level shark himself, the prodigious level creating machine YooShin
Yang surfacing for another go at a single player Quake2 map.
YooShin
was one of the first Quake2 mappers to really present quality maps in abundance.
He pumped em out like wet cheese doodles through the hind end of a diuretic
mongoose (huh?). Needless to say when his name popped up I settled in for
a rousing game of Quake2. And I was not disappointed.
A rather
nifty opening sets the stage for your adventure. Gameplay is tough yet
fun. Blood-red is packed with Berserkers in tight cramped spaces. The old
method of back pedaling and pumping em' full of lead still works just don't
forget about that turn in the hallway so you don't get your back up against
a wall. Architecture is clean and efficient. All in all it's standard YooShin
Yang. And that is also it's biggest shortcoming. While standard YooShin
Yang is more than most authors are able to pull off, it is nothing new
or novel for YooShin. It's just more of the same. And while that's not
bad.... it's still good, but it's also not better.

Another YooShin
Yang quality map. Add this to your YooShin collection. |

Standard YooShin,
does not push the envelope any further. |
|
A very enjoyable
quality map. No surprises though. |

An example of the clean build YooShin employs throughout.
Berserkers in narrow hallways, a deadly combination.
Nice use of lighting/lights found in the newer breed/style of maps.
