A hellish atmosphere pervades the main entrance to the unholy Temple Of Death.
Within the temple itself, fierce guards attempt to thwart your holy mission.
 The Sacred Crystal of Stroggos.
"There is a new evil that threatens the sanctity of Earth... it's name is Jorg...a vile and evil beast, rumored to have been spawned from the depths of Hell itself... Jorg resides in his lair deep within a Strogg temple--an unholy temple of death where the Strogg practice their hideous religion... according to legend, only he who possesses the Sacred Crystal of Stroggos may release and destroy the dreaded Jorg...find that crystal, soldier-- and frag that ungodly SOB before it is too late. Good luck." ~Jack Davis
"On Sacred Ground" is a 3 level adventure that is a complete, satisfying experience. While many of the user created levels rely on the "get out alive"  scenario, Jack has created a level set mythology that could support an entire series! The idea that there exists this religious sect of Strogg who are mystical and also fierce combatants creates for quite a different playing experience.
"On Sacred Ground" is also supported by beautiful lighting and shadow (see the middle and lower screenshot) and an egyptian flavored architecture within the temple setting itself. Construction is massive and yet believable. Combat is fierce but still allows for exploration and strategy.
There are a few puzzles along the way which also help to make this much more thought provoking than many levels currently available tend to be. A fine mixture of combat, architectural beauty, and strategy.
The final climax is a pulse pounding showdown with the mysterious Jorg. It looked to be a terrific battle until it became apparent that there was a minor flaw in Jorg's mobility which greatly reduced his potency. As a result he is more easily dispatched than he really should be.
All else aside, this is a very fine 3 level set, one that could easily be expanded upon for a larger level pack, or a continuing series.
