Top 10 List
#1 The Azure Mine James Parkman

James fourth and best map to date...  The Azure Mine is the sequel to his previous map The Bloodshrine...  The amount this map author improved from his first release is unbelievable...  I would like to say I told you so though ;]...

#2 Versicolor Vermination Roger Staines

Finally one of my favorite Quake 1 map author's releases a map...  Although a few other of the SPQ webmasters were saying typical ACE style, I don't think so...  Although monster placement was used in typical ACE style the actual design was Quake2 style...  I am used to seeing something unusual in an ACE map like an upside-down room or a building rising from the water...  I believe Roger was out to build a Quake2 style map and a Classic at that...

#3 Infiltrate:: Subjugate::

Matt Sefton

What do you say about Matt's work other than very professional...  Matt has never made a bad map in my opinion, something I can't even say about my favorite map author's...  Matt's first Quake2 map is no exception...  Solid design, excellent balance and a lot of fun...  I guess the only thing that keeps Matt just off my short list of favorite author's is I'm still waiting for a little more of Matt's style and a little less of id's...

#4 KSP70 Kurt Kowitz

After reading the text file and seeing this was another author first release I didn't get real excited about it...  Boy was I wrong this was excellent work for a first release of any kind...  I'm looking very forward to more of Kurts work...

#5 Vostok Rising Ed Cope #2 2

Here's another guy that does excellent work and both of his Quake2 maps are no exception...  Vostok Rising a very good map with excellent story line, albeit a bit easy...  I think my favorite of Ed's is still The Gib Factory...  By the way Ed Big Congrats on your new job at Revenant...

#6 Incarceration Greg Barr #3 2

This was the first map I rated in the 90's and it's too bad we only got one SPQ map from Greg before he was hired by Raven Software...  I guess he'll be working on Heretic II now...

#7 Abandon all Hope James Parkman

The first Big release from James this one made all the SPQ pages...  I couldn't believe the improvement from his first map...

#8 Arkanian Mike Daugherty

This one was a lot of fun...  It was also quite a challenge be sure you conserve that ammo...  This is one of a very few user maps you'll fight the final boss of Quake2 in...

#9 Fatal Opportunity YooShin Yang #6 2

I thought this author was going to make 10 maps before anyone else made their second (actually he made three very good ones)... The pace has since slowed he must be working somewhere... ;)

#10 Water Works Doug Magee #5 2

Wow! did I get a lot of fan mail when I called this one the bast map yet...  Well if it were not for a few very poor ratings from these same people this map would be right at the top and I still say this is one of the better maps out there...
