DMSP 2
(Size: 810 k. No Alternative downloads.)

This is an enhanced version 2 of the DMSP mod which generates arena-style single player gameplay on any Quake deathmatch map. You should read the review of the original DMSP to find out how the mod works and plays, but it is recommended that you use this new version. The improvements and enhancements are listed in the this text - suffice to say they are mostly very useful, fixing various bugs or improving the gameplay in general. Perhaps the most prominent changes are: The inclusion of Fiends (which adds to the challenge... and the monster infighting), and quicker removal of monster bodies (which improves performance, an obvious issue with the first version). A more powerful axe, monster teleport fixes, and drowning monsters are also noticable. One *very* curious addition indeed is the twangy guitar music that plays when you complete a map. Ummm.

Like before, this mod provides SP gameplay on any DM map (or indeed extra monsters on any SP map), but it also includes a specially made map, Dmsp1: "Centripice" (shown above). This is an appropriately deathmatch-style map, consisting of a few very well connected two-tier arenas. As the name suggests, it's focused on circular designs, with ledges, walkways and walls spiralling around each other. The map has a good strong theme, due to the arcane medieval textures, including some rather cool ones from Daikatana. These detailed textures, along with light details and hanging flags, as well as funky circular ceiling designs, give the architecture plenty of style. Due to the connectivity, limited weapons and armour, gameplay is distinctly challenging. There's nowhere to hide, while running around often gets you face to face with a bunch of angry monsters. However, there is one good tactic for getting through this map, but I'll leave it to you to work out. As is normal with DMSP, skill settings are very effective.
