The Warthog

  • Bio: First got into TF by a friend in High School while on the way to a Pep Band engagement, then was in Clan [ONE] for about a year. Then things took a different course when I wanted to get into being a web guy about this game. Looked on Yahoo, found some html tutorials and was on my way. Started out on a site called TF2 Gateway, (Cheesy Movie name rip-off and all) and after a while Spif noted my talents and writing skills (or did I pester him to the point where he just gave up? It's been so long I can't remember) and grabbed me. As they say, the rest is history.

  • Quote: I have a 6 page list, maybe I'll link it here :) It's full of great things like: "Son of a motherless goat!" and "The early bird may get the worm, but the 2nd mouse gets the cheese." or "People in cars cause accidents, accidents in cars cause people."

DieHard

  • Bio: Soldier by Quake, engineer by lag. DieHard has been around since the creation of the engineer. Originally creating Engineering 101, he looked to help others, he did so by helping Hal with the Who's Who. Now with Planet Fortress he is looking to help more players by doing what ever he can. Got a question, he probably has answer? Problem with the forums, try emailing DieHard.

SomeOldGuy

  • Bio: From the old school. The REALLY old school. Played golf online with tele- typewriters in 1969. Playing home computer games since Pong in early 70's. First online game: Zork on Compuserve, 300 baud, Atari 800. Bought HalfLife when it came out, then played online DM when it became available, and have been addicted to TFC since the first day it came out. Until I found these forums, I was admittedly an unaware DMer in TFC. PF Forums taught me how to play the game on a team as a teammate. Joined AMP in mid-late 2000, because of my readliy apparent mediocre skillz. Still bad to this day, but have a blast doing it. Have a small reputation as humour monger to the forum masses... still don't know where that came from.

^Goose

  • Bio: Basically did nothing with his old 386 computer, until he upgraded. By this time quake was out, and it blew me away. I was hooked by the single player and multiplayer modes alike: DM, CTF, Threewave...great stuff. Then I saw a post on PlanetQuake about something called Team Fortress. Downloaded it, got some maps, took the time to figure the damned thing out, and was hooked even more. My addiction to TF over other multiplayer modes is like the addiction to cigarettes over coffee (although both are great). With the help of PlanetFortress and it's hosted sites, I grew out of my newbie stage and began striving to be a competetive part of my team. Been a PF junky since, and when the opportunity to do news here popped up, I was all over it.

  • Function: Newsie, Pollsie (erm...duh)

  • Quote: I don't know. This requires thought. I find extreme humor in most of the things The Warthog says, if you hadn't noticed that by me ripping all of the really good ones and using them in posts. "It isn't pollution that's harming the environment. It's the impurities in our air and water that are doing it." -Dan Quayle, "I would never do crack... I would never do a drug named after a part of my own ass, okay?" -Dennis Leary, and finally....."The Internet is a gateway to get on the net." -Bob Dole.

PainKilleR

  • Bio: Having played TF for some 2 years or so before moving on to TFC, I decided in June of 99 to find a clan with which to play this great game, and somehow managed to end up in Clan Erinyes. Moderated Sierra's TF2, Half-life, and Half-life:Opposing Force message boards for a short period of time (a few months), and now on to this...

The Greats of Planet Fortress (PlanetFortress' Past)

Here are the true greats of Planet Fortress, they laid the foundation of the greatest TF site of all time. So sit back and relax. So read on, find out who Spif, Hal, and Bundy were and what they did for our community!

Spaceman Spif & The Hal

Spaceman Spif started it all, we wouldn't be here if it was not for him. Spif created CD Newswire, named after the clan he and The Hal were in. Months later the site evolved into the TF Newswire. TFN grew over time, becoming the largest TF site of it's day. Spif was an HTML and graphic wizard, he did it, he created the foundation of this great site.

As every site grows so does the staff -- insert Hal, Spif's right hand man. Hal created the Who's Who which contained a data base of hundreds of TF players. Who's Who was originally done by hand, meaning that he had to read through each e-mail, then type them up by hand. It took a lot of time maintaining a database this large, with the help of DieHard and others the Who's Who grew by leaps and bounds. Finally the Who's Who was brought to a close after 3-4 months of Planet Fortress's launch. The task was simply to large, it was comparable to writing a phone book by hand. TF was a huge hit, and there were thousands of gamers playing it, making it near impossible to document all the players.

After Spif left Planet Fortress Hal took the reigns and charged on. The Fortress continued to grow, during this time there were many changes in the game. One of the biggest changes was the creation of TFC. TF was finally considered officially done, the source code of quake world was released, classes were changed and many players came and left.

Bundy

Bundy is the greatest man of the TF community; unfortunately he has cut ties with the GameSpy Inc. network, but his beliefs still carry on. Fort Bundy, now called The Fort, was a site hosted under the TF Newswire (and later Planet Fortress). On his site he set the standard for honor, sportsmanship and team play.

During the early years of TF, gamers looked to Bundy for advice and leadership. He started User Accountability, stating that players should be held accountable for their online actions. Just because this is online, it does not mean that you are not bound by the laws of the land. He also lead the charge against lamers and poor sports.

Bundy taught a lot of players about sportsmanship and play; he really defined the word honor. Bundy constantly posted up editorials on how a player could improve one's game play. By following what he wrote, players became a better person on and off-line.

We salute you comrade.
