Giving Credit Where Credit is Due
A tribute to the WDK.

Do you have a favorite server to play on? I do, and I know a few others out there have a server to call "home." Server admins hardly receive enough credit for their work. I learned early on to send a "Thank You" email to the owners. It may not sound like much, but it goes a long way. I am happy that he has a server for me to play on. I believe good deeds should never go unnoticed. Dr. Kervorkian came to me a few months ago about thanking an admin. I now feel now is the right time for this article to see light.

From time to time Planet Fortress likes to salute members of the community. There are literally thousands of players and admins that deserve credit, but on behalf of The SlaughterHouse Regulars (TSR), I could not pass up the chance to publicly thank WDK for his administration of The Slaughter House (TSH) server and webpage. On November 7th, WDK decided to announce the closure. It is fitting we give him the proper send off.

Being an admin is not an easy job, most of the time it is often a thankless job. WDK stuck through the hard times, never loosing his cool and kept his server running smoothly. Dr. Kervorkian summed it up pretty nicely, "Thank you WDK, for all those times when it seemed you needed 4 hands and 20 fingers to boot ALL the llamas on your server. Thank you for coming up with great ideas time and time again for everyone to enjoy. And most of all, thank you for being our friend." A good server is the result of great admins and great players.

"The first time I played on the Slaughter House. my clanmate Verdugo and I came looking for a clean and fun pub game and found it at TSHouse. I realized most of the people on the server were regulars and were all class act people who loved playing the game,... I had the funnest time I'd ever had playing TFC. I was impressed with all the custom maps that were in rotation and the fact everyone had them and loved playing them too! Thanks wdk!" -Limely

"The players and the attitude they have. I've never played with a friendlier bunch of guys. Sure, it’s all about the flag, but on The Slaughter House it's also about fun..." Fuzzy Bunny Slippers goes on to say, "He takes crap from all sides about server complaints, webpage maintenance, map suggestions, but never loses it. He's a great player to frag with..."

Picking the right maps is not an easy decision; I learned that during our Survival Map packs. Sure we could all play Valve maps, but from time to time we like to play something new, something fresh. WDK gave aspiring mapmakers a great change to show off their hard work. Zouave, now a professional mapmaker, had his maps ran constantly on TSH. WDK provided him with the bandwidth so others could enjoy his maps. From experience I know what Zouave means, when he says, "It takes a lot of time and energy to build a clientele around a good custom map server and keep it populated. For that effort, I thank him." WDK you have left your mark on the community.

Havoc and many others called TSH home and sends an extended "thank you" to WDK for his service, but I think [=1=]VuLcAn summed up the thoughts in this RealPlayer video. So thank you WDK, your good deeds have not gone unnoticed.
