Neil Manke has earned a reputation in the Half Life community for his superior single player adventures. When he decided to foray into the world of Team Fortress Classic, he did so with the same craftsmanship that is his hallmark. The result being one of the finest examples of the level designer's art available to TFC players.

The standard twin bases have been given a snowy treatment. The water dividing them is covered in a slippery and jagged ice bridge. That's where the similarities between Vidars and 2fort end. The bases have a gray stone look that makes you feel like you're in a tall Castle. The courtyard flagroom reinforces this theme with a central covered well and tall surrounding walls. Vidar's textures and architecture combine wonderfully throughout.

One person has pointed out that playing Vidars can actually cause you to feel a noticable drop in the temperature. Where Vidar's succeeds admirably is it's atmosphere. Breakable icicles hang throughout the map. The ice is slippery underfoot. The ambient sound of the wind outside each base is chilling. The kind of map you want to play on a summer day in Tucson.

Since the original release of Vidar's, a few gameplay changes were made by Neil Manke to tighten down the flag room which was a bit porous. The improvements to Vidar's Niflheim made an already classic map far more challenging.
