We got tons of mail on the spam mirv issue.. Check out some samples:

Since mirv's are an integral part of a demo's arsenal it doesn't seem plausible to remove it completely. The proposed solution is simple. Valve must create and implement a timing script for mirv's. For example, upon releasing the first mirv, there should be a 5, 7, or even perhaps a 10 second delay until the next one can be released. The script should be invulnerable to user scripting, meaning it cannot be changed by any experiened scripter, as that would be defeating the purpose. I'm sure the people at Valve can find a way. I believe this idea will eliminate mirv spam and eventually seperate the talented demo's from the ping raising, talentless spammers. Hope you post my solution, maybe Valve might consider it.QW vs. TFC

by Andre Dituri

The current 2-mirv limit is probably the best way of dealing with the spam problem (and it WAS a problem) quickly and effectively. I'm having a LOT more fun playing TFC since the 2-mirv limit was introduced.

by Mary Chapman

To think all this hoopla about something so stupid. The fact that they eliminated 2 mirvs from the hw and demo class was agrivating enough. And now what, we have rumor and tfc player support of a mirvless TFC. What the hell is wrong with people. That is like saying that the sniper or pyro is useless. If one class is worthless than they all are. But none are. People keep complaining about spam, spam this, spam that. People have the right to throw grenades uselessely and mindlessly anywhere they want. When did TFC suddenly have ethics, or war for that matter. Lets not forget the key of tfc, and that is that tfc is war. Its not about you getting mad because some guy keeps blowing your dumb ass up because he wont stop chucking mirvs into your base. Its about being skilled enough to go out there and frag his ass and not complain. If you know someone is spamming in a certain locale dont keep going back there duh. You always see the spam complainers during games going back over and over only to get blown up by spammers. Look whiny bitchers, wise up and stop bitching. Spam does not lag servers, its probably someone with a shitty soundcard that cant handle all the sound. Eat shit and quit bitching. Oh and one more thing valve better not remove the rocket jump or any class either or i swear i quit tfc and ive been playin for over a year and a half.

by Critical Bill

Clankiller's editorial on SPAM was a complete joke. Go figure a soldier bitching about MIRVS of all things. Anyone with half a brain knows that the soldier is the Uber-class in TFC, and that the nail grenade is the spammiest, laggiest weapon in TFC. It kills people with 56 k modems. Yes, both the demo AND the soldier are fairly spammy. They can pack quite a punch. But there is one LARGE difference......the armor. The armor isa what tunrs the soldier into the Uber-class of TFC. I enjoyed playing a game of TFC with a buddy the other day. He told me, " im glad the mirvs are gone. Now there's no more spam", as he proceeded to toss a nail grenade at a sentry, taking it out. The he tossed another nail grenade to a room with 2 engies. They got lagged out, and tried to run away. My buddy the soldier then blasted the engies causing them to fly into the air. Of course, the spammy fall damage killed them as soon as they hit the floor. Then, half of the enemies team ganged up on the my friend, pumping all kinds of lead into him, like a pack of hunting dogs trying to bring down a grizzly bear. My friend just kept firing his rockets and tossing his remaining 4 grenades and 2 nail grenades. Spammy splash damage knocked off several enemies. And so it went on. You want spam? Look no further than the ULTIMATE spammer of TFC, the soldier. Im not advising to mess with the soldier. But in my mind, the demo and soldier are linked. If you mess with one, you have to mess with the other. Either put the Demo's mirvs back, or reduce the soldiers armor or yank the nail grenades. A soldier vs. a demo is NOT a fair match in the open. it's a simple as that. For the demo to be yanked of the mirvs is only allowing the rich to get richer. Those clan players who deny this are lying. And IF they DON'T deny it, then why would you agree to weaken a class that is already weaker then the Uber-soldier to began with? Think about it...........

We got tons of mail on the demoman script issue.. Check out some samples:

Well then, lets get rid of all the rest of the scripts then. Simple as that. It AMAZES me how whenever a class approaches the level of the Ruling Solider...the TFC community cries out to Valve.

by Mike

Hello, I just saw the news on your website about the new demo script, valve is going to take it out. The original Team Fortress didn't have a delay on the pipes. Since learning about that script, it has been heaven, just like the old TF days. Why is it that any time they change things they make the demoman weaker? The demoman is supposed to be a close in fighter. I don't see why the pipes have to be on delay in the first place. No one complained in TF. This sucks!

I know this is more of an HTML question.. but how exactly did you get the random messages on your page, or more to my point, how could I have random pictures on my page? If you could help me out, it would be greatly appreciated

Quake Team Fortress
by Jabberwocky
Does anyone play team fortress for the original quake any more? If so, where can I find them?

(Slick: Hehe, I must admit, the question made me laugh when I saw it. Your best bet is checking the quake servers in gamespy)
(NextWish: Also, you may be interested in the quake TF Frik bot: it's located here for offline play.)

TFC

by David Shih-Kang Brogden

Hi, I have a question. I used to play Team Fortress back in 1997/1998 when I lived in the dorms and had access to the T1. I recently saw some people playing TF Classic in the computer labs and asked them if I could get a copy of it, but for some reason they gave me some bs about needing a CD key or what not. I was just wondering how do I play Team Fortress on the computer. I remember when I lived in the dorms back in 1997, that I had to have the original version of Quake I and then I had to download Gamespy and then I had to download all the patches to play Team Fortress. For this new version of Team Fortress, do I need to buy a copy of halflife? and then download a patch for it that has all the (bsp, models etc), and then use Gamespy? The people in the lab were using won.net or something, but I went to the page and couldn't find an answer to my question. Basically, what do I need to play TF on this computer? Any help you can provide would be great. David

(DieHard: You need to buy halflife in order to play online. The cd-key is on the back of the cd case and only one cd key can be in use at one time. TFC is included in the following boxes: Half-life 'Game of the year edition' and Half Life adrenaline pack (which is the best value to buy). TFC comes with 4-5 standard maps which are usually played. There is an in game thingy that will find servers where you can play on. You can also use gamespy to find a server too. Here are the system requirements: Minimum System Requirements Windows® 95, Windows 98 or Windows NT 4.0 Pentium® 133 24 MB RAM 2X CD-ROM drive Mouse and Keyboard 640x480 SVGA high color (16-bit) display Windows-compatible sound device Recommended System Requirements Pentium® 166+ 32 MB RAM 3D accelerator card (OpenGL or Direct 3D) )

I'm a Half-Life fan and I think that TFC2 looks pretty damn cool!! When will it come to Norway?

(Slick: There's no release dates anywhere, but I'd guess it wouldn't be too far behind any american release (no dates have been set).
(NextWish: Martin, it's TF2 not TFC2 ;D

April Fools
by Badlamah
you idiots had me completely duped on that april fools crap, I should've known something wasn't right when they said communist sweat shops. I submitted the news to other sites too!

(Slick: That's Zorak for ya!

Here's the post for those of you who missed it:

Yesterday, March 31st, Microsoft finalized it's purchase of Valve Software. This deal was highly influenced by Gabe Newell, who used to work at Microsoft. Sierra also pushed the deal.
Valve has not yet issued a press release, but inside sources confirm this report. Sierra has released this information:
"We were disappointed with TF2. It has been delayed countless times, and by now it is worth more to just give it up than push it through." Gabe Newell replied with "It is being delayed on purpose so we can compete with Daikatana."
Valve has said they are excited to integrate Microsoft's technology into TF2. It is now known that TF2 will ship with Microsoft Active Directory and Microsoft Active Desktop built in. TF2 is also rumored to ship with the upcoming X-Box. We interviewed a familiar man named Robin Walker about the deal and managed to ask him two questions:

Planet Fortress:Do you think this merger will effect the TF2 shipping date?
Robin:Yes. TF2 will now ship much sooner, since instead of having the game boxed and shipped from Sierra, Microsoft will send it to several Communist sweat shops and get the job done quickly. The game development time will also be shorter since we are now using Microsoft Visual Basic 6 as our development language.
Planet Fortress:How will the use of exciting Microsoft technology be used in TF2?"
Robin:We plan on using the highly loved Active Desktop to let people read the latest news while playing TF2. TF2 will also use the Microsoft Hover game that came on the Windows 95 cd engine instead of a modified Half-Life engine. This will allow us to use much bigger enviroments.

The whole deal may sound suspiciously unreal, but we will keep you updated with every piece of information we got on this. This looks to be a very good deal to Valve, since they will now have access to Microsoft's large resources. The only threat however remains, Daikatana may be released before TF2. Stay tuned. )

(NextWish: I too was duped by this, well atleast until that I read it was posted by Zorak. ;D )

Hello. Have you all ever thought about using the Ultimate Bulletin Board for your forums? I like it a lot and it seems as if everyone is using it now, so maybe it is really good. I don't really know, as long as I can post I dont care, just thought you all may want to hear my opinion. Thanks.

(Slick: The forums will change with the redesing (we have not started that yet, a few other things need to be done first. ).

Lag and the new patch
by Chris McGuire
Why has everyones ping increased since the patch was released. All of the servers that i normally play on were 6-8 green but now they are only 3 red. I dont think this has got anything to do with my settings as i have already set the game up as much as possible.

(Slick: Well, you said not to say it, but it wasn't the patch; the netcode did not change at all. Your best bet is a worse connection to your isp.)..

I think my only concern about TFC2 is that it might end up beeing a on-line version of rainbow six. Now dont get me wrong, it think TFC needs more tatics to it but what if they put to much in? it would lose its log-in and pay appeal, i dont want planning sesstions before the game, i want to join at any time and get right into the action with out having to worry to much about the fact that i missed the pre-game planning session.

(Slick: Well, i don't think that'll be a problem, as Valve has always had good ideas and you can see in our TF2 section that they are trying things constantly to get what works into the game, and what doesn't, is out.)

TF2 Releasing?
by Colby More
Do you guys think that they have cancelled TF2? The only reason that I know of that they are having problems with is the Sound Communications.... I wish if they would just remove all of that and then release TF2 now and come out with a free patch that adds the sound comms originally planned. This is much better than keeping everyone waiting. You dont know how pissed Im gonna be if they cancel this game.

(Slick: If they canceled TF2, we would know, and let me tell ya; they haven't.).

Concerning Sentry Guns
by Russ
Hi. I am an engineer by trade. I work in the Defense and build sentry guns. Recently, since the latest patch, and even before, I noticed that scouts and other light classes are not being killed by my gun. I don't know why. I make them the same way I always did. This means that the enemy sensors within the gun, which are produced under contract from Valve, must be to blame. I've had a scout run rings around my gun, nailing it to death while it just bleeps helplessly. It is a crying shame. Spam is for removing sentry guns. Let's not remove spam, make dumb gun and let scouts steal flags while a gun watches. If the gun is the same and players are just so elite now, then we need a sentry enemy sensor update from Valve. After all, what are we paying them for?

(Slick: Your definitly dedicated.. I don't have any idea as to the reason for your loss in sentry abilities.. The most likely cause (since nothing was changed in the patch) would be your playing on worse severs, or you connection to your favorites has gone down.. It's the most likely cause, because latency greatly effects a sentries ability to pick off intruders).
