Spaceman Spif started it all, we wouldn't be here if it was not for him. Spif created CD Newswire, named after the clan he and The Hal were in. Months later the site evolved into the TF Newswire. TFN grew over time, becoming the largest TF site of it's day. Spif was an HTML and graphic wizard, he did it, he created the foundation of this great site.
As every site grows so does the staff -- insert Hal, Spif's right hand man. Hal created the Who's Who which contained a data base of hundreds of TF players. Who's Who was originally done by hand, meaning that he had to read through each e-mail, then type them up by hand. It took a lot of time maintaining a database this large, with the help of DieHard and others the Who's Who grew by leaps and bounds. Finally the Who's Who was brought to a close after 3-4 months of Planet Fortress's launch. The task was simply to large, it was comparable to writing a phone book by hand. TF was a huge hit, and there were thousands of gamers playing it, making it near impossible to document all the players.
After Spif left Planet Fortress Hal took the reigns and charged on. The Fortress continued to grow, during this time there were many changes in the game. One of the biggest changes was the creation of TFC. TF was finally considered officially done, the source code of quake world was released, classes were changed and many players came and left.
Bundy is the greatest man of the TF community; unfortunately he has cut ties with the GameSpy Inc. network, but his beliefs still carry on. Fort Bundy, now called The Fort, was a site hosted under the TF Newswire (and later Planet Fortress). On his site he set the standard for honor, sportsmanship and team play.
During the early years of TF, gamers looked to Bundy for advice and leadership. He started User Accountability, stating that players should be held accountable for their online actions. Just because this is online, it does not mean that you are not bound by the laws of the land. He also lead the charge against lamers and poor sports.
Bundy taught a lot of players about sportsmanship and play; he really defined the word honor. Bundy constantly posted up editorials on how a player could improve one's game play. By following what he wrote, players became a better person on and off-line.
We salute you comrade.
