The Biogenetic Forge

Smallish Basemetal map. Very basic in the looks department but features somewhat interesting rotation puzzles.

Note: This map has to be played with Scourge of Armagon.

this map is butt-ugly.
but it's cool because there are rotaters. ok, well, not *just* because of that.

but there is an interesting puzzle that involve them and it's introduced well.

it's just a shame the author didn't build on that more instead of resorting to cheesier jumping puzzles/crushers and annoying combat (3 consecutive shamblers with only explosives and not enough cells in pitch black flickering lights? no thanks).

if you're looking for some rotater inspiration for a little more puzzle oriented map, check this out.

I hated this because the awkward 90s physics made me die all the time on the stupid rotating puzzles and traps. Bah!

i used the 'force-cage' trap on the shamblers. it worked fairly well.

Played in skill 3. All enemies killed. 2/3 secrets found.

Pretty good at puzzles, the rest wasn't close to that level, the brushwork was the worst part, combats were OK. For playing slowly and carefully.

Missed the pusher to the grinder, and used after i killed everything. The jumping part was well thought, and typical of platforming videogames, where the player has to watch before going on, but i would have moved the secret from where it is. The force field is well presented and could be a greater fun if used more. The shambler part was fun, haven't thought of the way dBaudio used which seems to be the intended way the mapper provides, but had more than enough non-explosives ammo so killed them myself.

Overall, linear layout, poor to OK brushwork for the time, decent combats, lower amount of ammo and health than in ID/hipnotic maps but more than enough. Difficulty lower than ID maps.

So, considering the year 4+ for the puzzles, 2/3 for the rest.

It is a pity there is so few Hipnotic maps, Hipnotic progs.dat are so underused except for making personal mods.
