There is interesting idea with invisible teleports. Design is OK.
While it was interesting in design (The catacombs area was cool, though tiny), entirely playable and decently put together, I'm not into maps where you have to arbitrarily find secrets to finish them. Or maps where you can hear annoying lasers from beginning to end. PEW! PEW! PEW! PEW! Watch me play it here: The Catacombs On The Quake Grave
There's some decent combat in this level, and I like the messages it gives you (I've always been a fan of those). Otherwise, I don't think it's very good. The main problem (apart from the constant laser sounds) is that you apparently have to find a secret to finish the map... I couldn't find it and noclipped, and I don't feel bad about it at all because that's bad design. The invisible teleporter also kinda annoyed me. 2/5
The lighting and the messages Milkman mentioned would have set quite a nice dark depressing mood, if it wasn't for that constant laser firing. The lasers should have fired only when the player is in the room.
Otherwise the level's quite a big step up from the author's earlier Pagan Temple level, in terms of both looks and gameplay. The lasers and mandatory secrets partially ruined it for me, so only 2/5 it is.
This map is better than the author's previous map the pagan temple however i could not stand playing through the map with that annoying laser sound being echoed throughout the map. Also using secrets as a means for the player to complete the map I feel is a bad map design decision to use as a level designer. I would give this map a 2 out of rating because the author attempts to create dread throughout the map through the text provide in the map and the use of jesus's sacrificed head in the king's throne room. I thought that was creative and well done.
I agree with the previous comments: unmarked secrets required for progression ruin this map. I had to watch the Quake Grave video above to figure it out. The laser-ear-torture didn't add to the experience either :(
The invisible teleport gimmick was interesting though!
1 heart for that cryptic secret teleporter
Plus the constant laser sounds
