As this map makes quite clear, this author worked for both Doom and Quake. Unfortunately this map is not a sign of what was to come, as unlike his future classics it's really not worth it just as the description implies. Go play Beyond Belief instead. But if you are into Doom you should check out his Doom levels as well.
The architecture is an alright recreation of the original, but there aren't nearly enough enemies, some of the secrets are missing and the ones that are there do not count as secrets in the map and I think the lighting's a bit too bright in some places. Should've at least put SOMETHING where the chainsaw was... not worth playing.
I think it's quite a fine adaptation of Entryway to Quake mechanics. Since the use key is lacking in Quake, some doors and buttons are operated by hitting them (kinda reminding me of Minecraft) xD
Quake's damage "economy" is also different, with enemies being more bullet-spongy, which I think, justifies the smaller enemy count.
