Strange use of textures, blocky architecture, a few good ideas. Unchallenging combat: almost all monsters can be taken out from afar, or get stuck in arhitecture (even in what is intended to be a challenging gameplay step). Bad lighting. Pretty nice, if it's a first attempt.
First map? Good try! There is quite a few good ideas, but also some... strange...? I'm looking forwad to what J.R. will do in the future! :)
Looks kind of basic, but actually quite fun to play! Looking forward to more from Jon.
Good attempt for a first map It was fun getting involved in your narrative even if a bit memey. However I admit gave some good laughs. Realistic architecture isn't always the best for quake because of player speed, needs more gameplay less "interior design" difficulty settings should have changes and the shambler at the end gets stuck on the door
3/5 We will watch your career with great interest.
It's great to see the number of first-time mappers sharing their work on here, and interesting to see what's been crawling around inside their heads.
And like the others that have commented, I'll be looking forward to Jon's future releases. Keep 'em coming!
Well, I really enjoyed this! I have played a lot of maps recently that are technically far more advanced, but nowhere near as much fun. Despite the blockiness and the overlighting, this really felt like exploring a real space, solving (easy) puzzles along the way. And it was gratifying to get all six secrets as well as all of the (disappointingly low total of) 35 kills.
A promising debut: there's lots of room for Jon Richter to improve his mapping technique here, but also a nice sense of narrative. And that is so important.
Charming map with a cool vibe. Quake gameplay is hidden beneath there somewhere while focus clearly being on light storytelling and environment. You just need a different type of mindset going into this one!
