My interest was piqued by the theme. I try to leverage ratings on the fairer side when reviewing a speed map but this one still nets 2 stars.
I was hoping for some creative usage of just one texture not monsters for the sake of monsters.
bambuz: Okay, but the end wall spike trap that blocks you from exiting if you backstep...eh.
neg!ke: Star map here, you could have tricked me that you only used on texture...nice job!
Spirit: Interesting gimmick, I guess.
Trinca: Had some promise then monsters for the sake of monsters.
Bambuz's untitled map is rather dull and arbitrary. Neg!ke's is much cleverer in its use of textures, but ther combat and progression are a bit of a grind. In Spirit's map, I killed 'em all, and very satisfying it was, too -- but I couldn't find an exit. Scampie's was brutal, not in a good way, but it was satisfying to successfully complete having been down to one health when there were still twenty or so knights left. All in all, though, not a strong pack.
I'd expect something different from such a theme. Like maybe using it to the mapper's advantage instead of trying to negate it by choosing the most versatile texture in the pack (which is apparently metal4_2, as it was used by 3 out of 4 mappers featured here).
Though, admittedly, texturing a map with nothing but metal4_2 and making it look relatively normal is still an achievement.
Good point.
