Alkaline 1.2
Very large sci-fi base themed mod + map pack inspired by Rubicon 2. This version 1.2 update has new maps, features, music, and bug fixes. This download is a complete full package, and you don't need any previous versions. (YouTube trailer)FGD and devkit are included, see the readme and manual for more info.
"Alkaline greatly expands the enemy roster and adds additional weapons and features. A tremendous amount of time was spent scouring through previous mods throughout Quake history and taking key elements, coupled with MANY original features, to create a rich and dynamic Base mod for Quake."
"Elements have been aesthetically and functionally modified to ensure uniformity and balance throughout the mod. Additionally, many historical elements have had bugs/errors removed to enhance game play."
Note: a modern engine / source port with increased limits is required.

A huge update to one of the best Quake mods available.
All of the new maps are great additions to the existing pool, but Dismal Signal Reforged by Heresy is the star of Alk 1.2 for me: jaw-dropping visuals and great use of both new and vanilla monsters to set up intense combat encounters. Already one of my favorite Quake maps ever.
5/5 for Alkaline, a must-play for anyone who loves Quake (and isn't allergic to base maps I guess).
You guys are great! But I can't figure out since version 1.0 how to get a golden key card at the starting location without codes to open the highest difficulty level "hell". Somebody help me! :)))

Thanks for the old maps, thanks for the new, and thanks for all your work and sharing...
Trying it now, excellent work. But one thing I will wait for ages if necessary... The next Arcane Dimensions.
Alkaline is pretty much on the same level as Arcane Dimensions at this point, and this new update makes it even bigger and better than before. The hub now contains four secret maps to find and a nice addition of jump boots to help you explore. The new maps are also really good and well worth coming back for if you've completed version 1.1.
I'm looking forward to any future updates, because this really is one of the best experiences Quake has to offer.
If you're getting poor performance in a few places, like on Tellus Terminus, and you're using Quakespasm (Spiked), consider switching to Ironwail. My framerates went from below 10 when facing certain directions to consistently 60+.
I finally found something I didn't care for in Alkaline - the final fight of Pipework-Powered Pillars is far too hard and in a way feels kind of unfair. I'm all for a challenge, but that last section seems a little too much and probably could have done with one less wave or maybe more health. The rest of the map is fantastic though, I love the art direction for it and the platforming puzzles are neat.
Alkaline now really feels like Arcane Dimensions: big collection of great levels with a certain theme.
I completed Alkaline 1.2 a couple of days ago (including the 4 secret maps). Almost all of the 20 maps were atleast pretty good (except a couple of secret maps, which I assume are repurposed old maps and felt a bit basic, but still pretty okay) and half of them were atleast great. With that said, these were my 5 favorites:
Easily up there with Arcane Dimensions
