Video of the map
What a blast from the past!! Oldschool quake gameplay with a twist and some never seen gimmicks...
Kills: 132/118? lol
5/5!
Thoroughly enjoyed this map. It seems harsh to score it only 4/5, as it's worth more than 80%, but I can't quite give it the full 100% when there are maps so much more inspiring than this. It feels old-school: which is fun, but not on the cutting edge. Still VERY well worth anyone's time!
Had my Quake fix after a long time with this one. Superb. It is definitely old-school: seems a little smallish at first, but the author knows how to fill it to the brim by packing in every trick and feature to be expected from a Quake map. I wish I had recorded a demo though, it was pretty good performance for a first run, with most of the secrets.
Solid extra 'bonus level' for an old classic. Too bad it seems Matt's interest didn't hold, but at least he (mostly) brewed another great map. :) Also qtwid.
Lives up to the name of its big daddy back from 1997. Don't expect super-detailled environments or huge areas here - that wasn't what the original Beyond Belief was all about, either. What you get is a rock-solid Quake experience with enjoyable combat and map design that doesn't confuse but simply works while still looking good. The Chthon fight at the end can either be solved directly (if you use the original BB) or indirectly (but still in a quite obvious way), so it's nothing you have to worry about. I would have also played a whole episode with old-school quality stuff like this once again, but hey, better one good map than a bunch of "so-so" ones, I guess. Thumbs up!
Quite enjoyable map, must play!
I love both the original Beyond Belief and Negke's maps but found this disappointing given the talent involved. Beyond Belief was a mix of different styles, but each map had a distinct look and atmosphere. This combines all the different textures, styles, etc. from the original into a single map, which makes it a jumble of different elements. At some points--the cavern with the zombies, the lava-filled basement--it feels like an obstacle course. Gameplay is never bad, and no part of the map looks ugly, but I think it's less than the sum of its parts.
I liked using the slimes to kill zombies. Nothing else really stood out, unfortunately. Enjoyable.
really like this map. fun times
So beautiful, Matthias. Oozes with the same old-school, Magma-encrusted charm of the original BB.
