Bloodstone on The Quake Grave

This first version of Bloodstone is a decent map. It's competent and can be finished but it really has that "1996 feel" to it.

I liked the knight room. Though really dark at first, once you hit the switch and the lights pop on and the pillars move --I thought that room was pretty cool. I will say the pay off at the end with using the pent and quad together is fun too.

The door that you have to shoot to open to get back is a bit odd... what if you run out of ammo? Trapped fiends under water? The beginning area with the shambler below you? Misaligned textures and brushes. I'm not entirely sure what the author was going for with this map. It's interesting, but a little unbalanced I think.

The 1997 version of the map is also played in this video.

I agree on the knight room with ArrrCee. I think it was the highlight of the map, or should I say highdark? @~@ Quite a bit of panic could be induced with that little room. Beeing kind of ammo starved at times also added to that.

The level design was kind of Doomesque in my opinion. Not saying that it's bad, but it just had that vibe to it.

I think the map wasn't half bad at all. I had fun, but I guess the somewhat poor brushwork and texturing forces me to give it 2/5.

Well, i didn't worry about that initial Shambler and the Knights. I couldn't reveal of how to open those vent secrets, so i just noclipped. Though the secrets were cool, it worth it)) They even pleased me more than the entire map! Extra quad secret, pent+quad, ammo+armor makes it unbalanced and less interesting at the end. So for the whole map i give it 2, for secrets + 1. If you didn't find that cool sky mansion secret and the shaft passage - you didn't play this map.

If you are going to play this map play the 1997 version as it is improved over the 1996 version. This map i felt was average map worth playing. I enjoyed the room you enter that that lights when you press the quake symbol on the wall. I enjoyed the challenge of discovering how to lift those bard to get the ammo and pentagram needed to combat the final battle with the two shamblers block the exit to the map. I would say this map is worth a quick play through and give it a three out of five rating.
