One of the most great maps in this site! 11/10 It contains a lot of secrets and gameplay is pretty hard.
I love the build quality, but there are some seriously bullshit Shambler encounters in this, which detracts quite a lot from the gameplay.
An extremely intricate map with a shitload of nooks and crannies to explore. As a consequence it's a bit crampy in some areas but nothing too annoying. Than has the experience to know not to add too challenging gameplay in these parts. On the other hand, at some point this map kinda becomes Shambler Central. A bit too many of them, generally popping up by surprise right in your face. I'm usually not too fond of eldritch monsters in base maps except when there's a good reason for it and it's definitely the case here. The title and the end sequence imply that their invasion is currently in progress and that they haven't left the premises yet.
I'm actually OK with the shamblers in this map, because they come in discrete waves with plenty of down-time in between, and because they are mostly set up in ways where you can handle the combats tactically. All in all, this is (as others have said) a great example of what a base map can be, and no less than we'd expect from Andrew Palmer. My only real quibble is that the geography becomes more confusing as the various shortcut doors open, and I wish something could have been done to help with that: for example, colour-coding the doors so they are the same unique colour on each side. Anyway, a fine map, and it's amazing to me that I've never reviewed it before now! Four stars.
Played it for the 1st time just now. Perfect map. 1000 and 1 respects. To me it seems like sir Andrew "Than" Palmer one of the best layout creators. Everything is so damn intricately interconnected. Really mind blowing. Anyway the map is engaging and inviting and challenging. Masterpiece!
