Very nice
Holy high-FOV screenshot.
I really like this map. Was one of the first custom ones I played.
A very challenging map that I at times struggled to complete. Many similarities in gameplay style to the map Perssp1, including the ridiculous final fight. Thankfully the player is given better equipment for this battle, which makes it rather more achievable.
With this one, Fr3n developed his visual style, less austere than in his previous map and closer to his later works. The gameplay felt a bit like a chore though: like Pritchard said, it is quite tough on skill 2 and abuse of quicksave/quickload soon became a necessity. The fact that I had no armor until the final quarter of the map didn't help either. There is one armor accessible reasonably early on but it's in THE one secret and unfortunately, that secret is much too well hidden. The texture of its door is almost exactly the same as its surroundings and I only found it via noclipping after finishing the level, which defeats the purpose.
I found the final fight much easier than in perssp1 for the reason that it's not set in an enclosed arena but in the regular map, allowing the player to evade it and pick the monsters from afar at his leisure
Very nicely put together: consistenyly tough (on Hard) without ever really feeling unfair -- with the possible exception of the collapsing-floor vore trap. Good to look at, too.
While I'm not a big fan of the texture set, it's hard to argue against a fast, tough little map like this, though some parts can be easy to cheese if you know what's coming.
Recommended. 4/5
