By Marc Laidlaw, the guy behind Half-Life story.
There was some good attention to detail on some of the areas of the map (like the well and the graveyard) but I didn't like how much it seemed like I had to hunt around and guess to find out where to go next. You can watch me play it here: Chapel Shoggoth
Where the map kind of fails in the gameplay aspect (backtracking with no enemy repopulation, low enemy density in general, good amount of powerups), it succeeds in story telling.
Sure, there isn't really any written story to be had here, but the locations of the map, albeit really plain at times, tell a story of their own and sparked up my imagination. It was pretty immersive. Seems Laidlaw's had the story-telling flair in his mapping efforts, as well.
Still, being a Quake map, gameplay and combat are very important, and while the combat that can be had in this map was pretty engaging, I guess the backtracking got maybe a bit too distracting for me to rate this map too highly.
