Played on nightmare, all were killed and all secrets were found.
I agree with crash on this one, this level kick ass. The visual part is good but nothing outstanding, but the progression, lighting and encounters are better, way better, with some neat ideas.
The map itself is quite solid and can only cause problems in having two routes to reach a place sometimes or that it needs to find parts a bit hidden to progress sometimes. The secrets were mostly easy to find but couldn't feel bad about it. The map is filled with items eve more than Id maps.
The start map is very good for its time: it has some places were it needs some tweaks, but the idea and execution is very good.
4+
Cocerello, you forgot to "officially" rate the map; log in and press that 4/5 heart. :)
Quite an enjoyable first map of the episode. The gameplay was pretty hectic with plenty of action happening around you. On the other hand, the player is well supplied to counter the opposition, even too well, I'd say. It's only the first map, and already red armor and all but the last of the weapons are provided with ammo pretty much maxed out by the end.
In terms of looks it's kind of crude, but has just enough detail and style without it being garish.
I couldn't find the nightmare entrance at the start map, which for a start map is quite a big omission. One of the most fun things about start maps is trying to figure out the nightmare puzzle, and this time the puzzle was either nightmarishly hard or then it doesn't exist.
average quake map for its time, really did like the start map though. Layout in the main map was kind of confusing but rewarding when the player figures out how to progress. Enjoyed the implementation of secrets within the map as i was able to discover them all. Overall i would give the map a three out of five rating.
