Wow! I must admit that this was a much needed surprise. The only Quake2 map created by the legendary Matt Sefton, which he says he threw together, was the prized possession found in the time capsule.

There were plenty of times where I forgot I was playing a user made level. The design of I.S.E. could have meshed together with id’s own base level seamlessly. This was a larger map for its time hosting two separate underground areas. The first one within the base, the second inside of a cave. The level is laid out just right that the player still feels like they are exploring yet you don’t get lost or confused.

Item placement is nicely done but the enemy placement was excellent. There were a fair amount of surprises due to not expecting a Strogg to be placed where they were.

The level is also balanced properly. Mr. Sefton gives you just enough health to survive and plenty of ammo to wipe your target out. The difficulty could’ve been stepped up a tad more but for its time this amount of challenge was standard.

If you do not know who Matt Sefton is then you should educate yourself immediately. For those of you who remember the glory days of Quake2 you already know the quality that was associated with Matt’s reviews. This level stands as a testimony to that quality. Download!
