The Cassandra Calamity is a two-map mini-episode, placed in a base themed environment.
You’ll have to go through two enemy filled levels to blast down Mother’s mainframe.
Enemies are exclusively Grunts and Enforcers, with some doggies here and there. But don’t think it will be a simple fight, there are plenty of them: 105 in the first map and 115 in the second one, and they teleport right behind you anytime you think you’re safe. You’ll learn to be scared of touching anything, you’ll think twice if you really need that red armor…
Bad news for your health are also brought by some Grunts armed with Rocket Launchers instead of their regular slapstick gun and by Enforcer’s big bro, the new kid on the block strafes to avoid your shots and fires his blaster as if there’s no tomorrow!

The levels are very well designed with some areas higly interconnected, realisticly believable architecture and an overall good look. Enemies are always intelligently placed, and it’s rare to get an easy shot. They attack from many directions, often from above, and you’ll have to fight them with basic weapons: super-shotgun, nailgun and grenade launcer. You’ll find the rocket launcher and thunderbolt torwards the end of the second map. No show for the perforator (thus maybe it lurks in some secret area I wasn’t able to find). So prepare to run, jump and strafe ’cause most of the times fights will be more deathmatch-style than singleplayer-like.

And there’s more to see. Plenty of new/modified textures to fit the background described in the story told in the readme file. It’s a shame that the skin of the upgraded Enforcer isn’t very good looking while the Rocket Launcher Grunts have the same skin of the regular one (although this could be a gameplay choice, thus you’ll not know how each Grunt is armed before it shoots).
This pak also shows some very well placed rotating brushes, look at the opening of the lab: a realatively simple design with a great visual impact.
And there are also short in-game cutscenes and surprise events that greatly add to the atmosphere and gameplay experience.

In addition to this the pak sports a great electronic female voice (Mother’s) that call alarms, comments some events and it’s a please to hear (except for when it says: “Intruder Eliminated”, because the intruder is, of course, you).

In the end, this is a very good addon with fast’n'furious gameplay and a great lookin’ layout so download it now, install it and you’ll never regret!
