Here we have a very large medieval map, from the author of Insomnia. CZG made the actual map, but it would not compile, so Fat Controller worked with it, fixed a couple of things and did lighting, so that it would compile. And, are the results worth all the hard work?

This level looks great, one of the strongest medieval themes I’ve ever encountered, gray stone and white stone blocks, with wooden supports, with a couple of outdoor areas. The outdoor areas all looks good, with many angles rocks, and buildings jutting out of stone. Actually, the huge outdoor area are one of the most prominent and memorable things about this map, considering they are numerous and all look good. There’s some cool looking things also, a giant ominous cross in the middle of an outdoor path being the best.(See screenshot 1)

As well as layout is concerned, did I mention that this map is huge? You do a lot of traveling, and also a lot of backtracking. Teleporting monsters would have made this more interesting, but it would be hard to fit more monsters in this map. Very interconnective, seeing as how you often reenter previous areas for a higher elevation.

Game play is good, using horde combat, as typical with CZG maps, 140 monsters this time around. Often groups of 5 or more monsters are thrown at you at once. This is fun, but needed a bit more work, seeing as how you go through 1/3 of the map before you get the double barreled shotgun, and for the first 1/3 of the map you have to fight scrags, ogres, knights and death knights. And ammo is also very tight in this map, I actually had to use the ax in one area. Besides that it is all good, including an ending that is interesting. There is an easy to telefrag monster at the end. Telefragging that monster dictates how hard the ending will be. Skill settings are in full effect.

A huge, good looking level, with fun game play for the most part. Get it.
