Cold’s an extremely fast and furious fragfest with the general amount of the battle occurring in the open center area of the map. In the center where all the action takes place is also where you can find most of the weapons placed at, along with a bunch of ammo. Running out of weaponry will not be a problem for you in this one. Although running out of health and armor will be, due to them both being incredibly scarce. There’s an extremely easy to reach mega health, with yellow armor nearby, which happens to be near the quad. Actually if you go through the one teleporter in the level, you’ll spawn in this room in the center of the map, which gives you the BFG. If you drop down from there, follow a short path, you’ll run into the quad, then hop out of there, grab the YA, and then the Mega Health to be amped for battle. So the item placement definitely has some problems. There’s also some other health to be found, but not a whole lot more. So with all the weapons, and little armor and health, it becomes annoying because it just becomes who can kill who faster. All the weapons except for the hyperblaster will be found throughout the level.

As far as the map’s layout goes, its quite nice. You have your large central outdoor area, with water of all four sides, and a temple like structure in the middle that houses the BFG, and then there’s four rooms coming off of each corner of the center area. All four outer rooms are then connected by hallways which each have window’s looking into the central area. One of the four outer rooms has a teleporter than teleports you into the structure in the middle of the central area where you grab the BFG. Dropping down from there, you have a green lit underwater area where there Quad’s housed. Personally, it’d be better to see the Quad in the center of a map of this style where you could fight over it. Then moving up the ladder you’ll come into an area that just doesn’t seem like it fits the rest of the level, it uses different textures and has a bunch of crates that just seem out of place more than anything else.

This map is one of those cases where it could have been an excellent map, but item placement’s thrown the game play off a bit. Had that extra room that seems out of place not been there, and the whole underground part been excluded, this would have been a much better map. Keeping things simple isn’t always a bad thing. :)
