Lithium is a pretty big mod, that we should all know and love dearly. The main thing Lithium changes as far as gameplay is with it’s runes. You can find five different runes in a typical Lithium game, including vampire, resist, regen, strength, and haste. Obtaining the strength rune gives you the ability to deal out double damage upon your foes. With the vampire rune, a small percentage of the damage you deal gives you health, so in a heated battle, if your trading back shots, you’ll last longer! The resist rune causes you to take 1/2 the damage as you normally would, or you take normal damage if your enemy is packing a Strength rune. If you grab the haste rune you’ll be able to fire twice as fast, which can be kind of scary with a hyperblaster. Lastly the Regen rune causes your health to slowly regen, which is great for a flag carrier in CTF. Along with all these runes the only other core change to the gameplay is the offhand grapple hook. With these laser like grappling hook you can hold a weapon while grappling yourself all around the map, or make a quick escape.

If that’s not enough to make you beg to play, then there’s more. With this mod you can configure just about every single thing in Quake 2. You can turn on an option so people can no longer camp, and if they do they’ll definitely be paying for it. Lets say for instance you don’t think the grapple hook fires fast for you, then change it. Hyperblaster feeling a bit slow? Pump it up! You can ban weapons from the maps, set things up so you’ll start with whatever weapon and ammo you want, start players off with 300 health and armo if you’d like. It’s all up to you with this mod. Configuring the server to your liking’s is extremely easy through a series of “on/off” switches through a config file.

You can play Lithium in deathmatch or CTF, but playing in CTF will require you have the ThreeWave II pack. The best part about this mod is that you can still find people playing it if you look around hard enough, although you’ll never know what their server will be like. Lithium is also implemented in many other mods in one form or another, a definite groundbreaker.
