“Remains” takes place in a Strogg palace where you have to destroy an old cargo hold. This map remains to be any good and doesn’t remain on my harddrive. This map is short and borders on pointless. The architecture is decent, but remains too linear. The enemy is spaced out so uniformly through the map that it becomes reduntant and highly predictable. Weighing in at 882kb, it’s a good map if your using dial-up and don’t want to spend a lot of time downloading a map to test with.

I started wishing for some kind of frustrating brain warping puzzle or catastrophic event to hurl me into a strogghold stranglehold, but nope; I remained standing in a linear hallway knowing the next guard would be 10 feet away and another ten feet after that. The only thing that could have made it any worse would have been a 2 hour labyrinth ride through a library with the same texture being used for the walls, floor, ceiling, and books. The map would have been better if there were less enemies in it, at least I could have enjoyed the cleanliness without the monotony. The only point I had to do any thinking was to move a barrel 5 feet to get up a crate for some armour.

The map is short and the ending takes place in a cargo hold. This is when I got a little excited. Entering the cargo hold-you stand in front of the three button console to the cargo-lift. I stood there thinking which one I should press first so as not get them out of sequence, I guessed and pushed the first one from the left. Click-It was on and I was still standing! Now which one should I push next, my lord, which one!? BAM, I pushed the next one in order from the left-the button in the middle I pushed, my eyes were slightly shut. Only one button remains I told myself, “Only one button remains, this must be it…this is REMAINS!”. I slapped the last button and BAM the map ended.

“Remains” does have a moderate difficulty as far as combat goes. With all the Strogg, and lack of too much ammo, it will make you backstep a few times. I would recommend this map to those who like quick action, need a quick map for testing, or for those don’t like thinking. The text file that came with it is nice.
