I must say this map is quite a treat to be reviewing with it being, as far as I know, one of his earliest maps. Maybe you don’t know who Kit Carson is, and if you don’t you need to head over to his website after you get done reading this review. He’s made some excellent maps for Q3, and even a couple mods. Unfortunately, this map isn’t nearly as good as some of his more recent maps. Instead this map shows that its one of his first, because it almost seemed like he was experimenting with various things to see how well they worked.

In Screenshot 1 there on you’re right you can see the bland brownish textures that have been burning your eyes for eternity, but again this map’s relatively old, so at the time it probably wasn’t that bad. The color scheme, as far as textures go, pretty much stay consistent with what you see there. Nothing to horribly special, just those bland textures that I’m personally tired of seeing.

Take a gawk at Screenshot 2 now, and you’ll see something kind of disgusting, a bright purple-pink light, which surrounds pretty much every weapon spawn in the map. I’m not sure what Carson was thinking on this one, but bright colored lights like that in this map look ridiculous. You’ll also notice in that shot, that there’s some serious dark areas, which you’ll find in many corners of the map. Another area that kind of left me scratching my head. The whole map is mainly brown, then you have this neon colored weapon spawns, then out of seemingly nowhere you have this blue room. I’m not quite sure what’s going on there, but its definitely weird. Overall the lighting just needs some work still, with some areas that are just too dark, and some lights that were just to colorful.

I’m sure you’re wondering by now how the map actually pans out in the fragging department. Well all in all, its really some fast paced action, with almost all the action happening in that main area from shot 1. If you don’t need the rocket launcher, then don’t go for it, you’re an easy kill if you’re chasing it. The RA is an easy grab right next to the rail, and I do mean right next to it. That can hinder the gameplay a bit, when you can grab the rail, some slugs, and the RA all in about 10 steps to be a serious powerhouse. Especially if you consider the fact that someone with good railing abilities could seriously own that main area easily. I found it odd that the YA is much more difficult to reach, and turns you into a severely easy to nail target. The Mega Health requires you to perform a rocket jump and leaves you open to an easy rail in the face.

In the end I’m leaving this one in your hands. If you like what you see in the screen shots, then this map might play well in your server rotation. If pink lights make you feel awkward then you might want to avoid it.
