Upon playing this map, you will be struck with a sense of disbelief. I mean, it’s not possible for a map to look this great, is it? Well, I’m gonna say it up front, this is the best looking map I have ever seen.

This map is done in the ikbase texture set, used in Ikkia Kerenan’s, The Secret Installation, as well as many other places. These textures are always used for square or angular architecture, it was what they were designed for and it’s how they look good. Well, Andrew Palmer has taken this texture set and made a map that has some of the prettiest curves ever exposed to mankind. Detailing is everywhere, green supports run above you, huge outdoor set pieces that look great, every area simply looks exceptional. I can’t imagine the time Andrew Palmer put into making these maps, considering that even though curves are everywhere, there are almost no textures misalignments whatsoever. That’s incredible for map of this size.

Layout is once again, excellent. Every area has at least two floors, one of the most 3-D levels I’ve ever seen. Huge structures and walkways loom above you. Very interconnected level, seeing as how even though this level is huge, every single area is distinct, so it’s hard to get lost. This map wraps around itself so much it’s uncanny. Some very nice secrets, 6 of them to look for, which lends itself to exploration as well, seeing as the rewards they reap are worth the time spent finding them.

Game play. Did I mention that there are 123 enemies on hard? Being an ikbase level, there are a lot of base enemies, including the excellent mega-enforcer from Zerstorer, but that’s not it. Later on in the map you will run into fiends, vores, shamblers, and even spawn. Very exciting stuff, seeing as how grunts and enforcers are used very well with the 3-D design, shooting from all directions. Health and ammo are spot on. This map even has one of the most exciting endings I’ve ever played, fantastic stuff. All skill settings are in effect.

I enjoyed this map immensely. You will also.
